Ducks and Divas

Post by grams » June 6th, 2006, 12:37 pm

Hello all,

You may have noticed that the Divas team invitation has disappeared from the top of the forum. There just wasn't enough interest in having a 60's and over subgroup.

The Divas have joined DIAR, where we can give grandmotherly advice and post an occasional recipe or two.

For my initiation into DIAR I have chosen a new nickname and avatar. Just call me Grandma Duck. (I am still grams on the forum.)

Wikipedia describes Grandma Duck thusly: 'Grandma Duck is in many ways the head of the Duck-family. She is normally the one who arranges the family's Christmas celebrations and she's known as an excellent cook with pies as one of many specialities.

She's old-fashioned enough to drive a car that looks like a motorized "surrey with the fringe on top", (mine is an '88 Dodge van poptop camper) and she is industrious enough, even at her advanced age, to milk her own cows and slop her own hogs.

Keep on erging!

Hi Grams,

I am glad that you are back. Your new duck personality is just great.

Grams,

Glad to have you on board!! I still remember last year during the Holiday Challenge when I was nervously preparing for my first marathon, how you encouraged me to go for it! Somehow getting that encouragement from a experienced marathoner really helped me talk myself into believing that I could finish!!

Have you done any marathons recently? I am working on the shorter distances right now, but I will do one for sure at some point in the season, so I can get the extra nonathlon points. Plus I enjoy the challenge of those long rows, a glutton for punishment I guess!! :P

I'm badly out of shape now, thanks to my futzing around with my blood pressure medicine last fall. So I'm starting over and am nowhere near doing 2 hours let alone 4!! I'll get one in sometime later this season.

My latest entertainmnet during my erg session is helping: I got an $80 wireless broadcast system for our DVR which lets me watch recorded shows in the basement on our small tv while erging. And fast-forward through the commercials of course.

So today I'll put on the World Cup--or maybe the French Open!!
