ATTN LIGHTWEIGHTS! HELP!

Hi-

My entire lightweight boat is over weight! Our first race where we'll have to weigh in is just around the corner and while a few are under 130, most of us are teetering around 131-135. Yikes! Although a lot of the weight we gained is most likey muscle (lifing in the winter probably bulked us up a bit), we still must all get down to 130. Any suggestions on healthy ways that we can fairly quickly bring our weights down (no sweat runs!) while eating enough to still preform well during workouts? Do you think just exercising more (erging before practice more, running more) will do it?

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Go on a low salt diet for a few days before weigh-in. No canned or pre-packaged food, and read the label on everything. It will shed water without you having to sweat it (pun intended).

No idea what a low-sodium body does for your performance, though.

Sounds like you're racing internationally unless US rules have changed to be under 130 instead of 135. :-( Bleech, I've been there before and it's no fun. I don't have too many suggestions for food as I like my food too much and you have to be careful to make sure you're getting enough nutrition. I would suggest doing a short jog/run/cardio something morning and evening to keep the metabolism going, ease off on the fat, but make sure you're keeping some in your diet, and also, make sure you're getting enough water to flush everything out. It's just a pain any way you look at it, just make sure you do it healthy. If your team has access to a nutritionist, that might be helpful.

Quick note - high school is 130 for lightweight women.

small meals
portion control
a cleansing diet
drink plenty of water
