Vain question - rowing and chest muscles

Post by genagoodrow » June 17th, 2010, 3:58 pm

Please let me apologize in advance for a stupid question:

I've gotten into rowing after losing 25+ lbs on weight watchers. WW inspired me to get more active, and so far I love rowing! Everything's going well. Only problem is that now that I'm on the skinnier side, my chest is looking a little bony.

Does rowing do anything to address chest muscles? I could start doing some push-ups or pull-ups too, but I'm not a fan of push-ups and don't have much extra time. Is there a chance that keeping with the rowing will help with my puny pectorals?

Rowing does lots for abs, delts, traps and precisely nothing for pecs. Try http://www.hundredpushups.com/ to build pecs.

GD push-ups. I suspected as much.

Thanks for the link! 100 is more than I aspire to, but 10 now and then, building to more, is do-able.

Now if I can summon the motivation.

I think there is some Pectoralis Major use at the end of the drive. I personally, in the last 5 years, have not do any other excercise out of erging, cycling and ocasionally running and have noticed some pecs definition, that i feel came from rowing.
