Hi from Indiana

Post by IndyDuck » April 2nd, 2008, 11:33 am

Hi everyone. I'm new to rowing... just ordered a Concept2 today and can't wait for it to come. I'm turning 40 this summer (or maybe just 39 again?) and would like to be in better shape then than I am now.

My favorite sport is swimming, but my husband is temporarily out on disability and we needed to drop the expensive pool/club memberships for the time being. I've been watching extra weight add up since then  and decided I HAD to find something we can both use at home until we can afford the memberships again (and before my weight is out of control). I'm excited to find the online community and especially happy to learn about the virtual teams. I know I train harder in a group than on my own.

Thanks, and looking forward to chatting with everyone.

Hi there!!
Welcome to the world of virtual rowing and to the forum.
It is great to see you here.
You will get so much motivation from this forum and from joining a virtual team.
It is easy to join a team or boat as we call it.You just edit your profile at the Concept2 site and choose from a very long list of virtual boats. There are many and always one to peak your interests.I am team captain of the virtual team TimbukTOO and the challenge boat TIMBUK2.
Team TimbukTOO is a boat of 23 rowers..many are new to rowing as yourself and they have a great sense of spirit and strength. There are never any pressures to row a certain number of meters. We all have our own personal goals but enjoy the friendship of the team.We have a team forum here and I post every day the team progress.
Please feel free to join TEAM TimbukTOO when you are ready to join.I will be happy to have you aboard.
Whatever team you choose..just enjoy the ride and have fun for health & fitness.
Nice to "meet" you and hope to see your name on our crew list!!

Hello to you as well!

I recently joined the Concept 2 on-line forum, and then joined TIMBUK 2 (Pat's team) and have had a blast! Like you, I am new to rowing (about 2 months + now) and I love it! It's a great way to get into shape, feel motivated (the on-line team really helps!), and you are lucky to have a new rower headed your way! My husband and I belong to a local health club, so that is where I row at present. I'm saving as much as possible for a rower of my own, for I would love to have easier access to the erg. Someday soon!!

Good luck with your new venture and I hope to see you on our team. Pat is a wonderful team leader and has great advice and support.

Take care and enjoy!!

Alison :D

Thanks for the invitation! My new Concept2 came yesterday and I had a blast trying it out. I'm painfully slooooow right now, but toward the end of my session yesterday I was starting to figure out how to be more efficient.

I changed my user name to Lyric (didn't feel right having a duck name since I signed up for TimbukTOO). Lyric is actually my dog's name, but she's a very athletic dog so maybe it will bring me luck. :D

Hi Lyric( great name)..
Congrats on the new rower..enjoy it and have fun.It is ..in my opinion.. the best piece of exercise equipment there is.I have had mine since the mid 90's and it has been my cardio exercise of choice along with some cross training for a very long time.
Welcome to TimbukTOO..the new season starts in just a couple of weeks..and we will have new journeys and adventures to experience with each other in a virtual world of rowing.Such fun and great motivation.
Have a great day!!
Enjoy the ride!!!
