Hello fellow lady rowers

Post by diannagail » March 1st, 2008, 1:26 am

I have just started indoor rowing as my cardio and fat loss program. I'm turning 56 in a few weeks - own a garden maintenance business for residential and businesses - have been weight lifting since I was 12 and participating in all kinds of sports since I was in elementary school. I'm in very good shape and am carrying a lot of muscle, but too much fat. At the present time I'm on a diet routine for low fat and sweets. I'm losing about a 1/2 pound per week. That's fine with me because I'm lifting heavy to put on muscle, so the scales don't tell the whole truth. The fit of my clothes and the weights I'm able to lift tell me I'm gaining muscle and losing fat.

I joined Ducks In A Row and have been telling all my friends about it. I also belong to a ladies only cycling group called Women With Bicycles. I built a website for it. www.freewebs.com/womenwithbicycles/ It's a casual fun group that has anywhere from total newbies to hard core riders. It's a nice mixture of gals. B)

Rowing in real water.

Post by diannagail » March 1st, 2008, 9:30 pm

Thanks for saying HI. I forgot to mention in my initial post that I rowed crew and scull in college and for several years afterwards with a club. I love being on the water, but I'm not an early bird and the nearest club is quite a ways from here. My way of getting on the water now is kayak - ocean, surf, and whitewater. I love to sail, which I also started in college, but I don't have a boat so I crew on other's boats. My work schedule has pretty much limited that activity though.

My current 'reality' group is a bicycle club for women of all ages and ability levels. We have anywhere from newbies on Huffy's to hard core triathletes. At 55, I'm one of the youngest ladies in the group ... talk about motivation and role models. We are a casual recreational group who have monthly meetings and social time at a Starbucks and a variety of local and away rides. :P

Hi Dianna,

I live on Bainbridge. I also do some kayaking and bicycling in addition to erging. Welcome to the Ducks.

Hi Dianna, I was so surprised to see another rower from Sequim. I am 58, Yikes, almost 59!! I have been rowing for about 1 year and am closing in on my first million meters. I love the challenges. My primary other sport is cycling!! I was happy to see your club website. I have ridden on rare occasions with the PA club, but mostly with my husband. I have a small sailboat, a 14-foot Melonseed Skiff that I haven't used enough due to time constraints--since I'm retired and the days go by too fast!!! I'll see if I can make one of your Starbuck get togethers. Welcome to the women's rowing forum. Are you doing the March challenge?? I did the Holiday, January and Valentine's Day challenges and they really keep me motivated. denise
