This is my first post so I hope I'm doing it right.
Great music lists you got there ladies. I just started rowing few weeks ago and I used to listen to Peter Gabriel's "Shaking the Tree" album. I'll used to row for the first 3 songs...
1. Solsbury Hill
2. Sledgehammer
3. Shock the Monkey
....and if I'm not huffing and puffing, Shaking the Tree is the 4th song. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to finish it but I'm getting closer.
Aside from Peter G., here are my other favorite list of songs that I think were great for rowing. Warning: you might end up singing along with it (which can be very distracting). It's what my son calls it "Mom's '80s Music" complete with eyes rolling. And my reply... "80's rocks!" although Elevation is from the 90's. Anyway here it is...
1. Only You by Yaz
2. Baba O' Riley by The Who
3. Elevation by U2
4. Don't Do Me Like That by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
5. American Girl by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
6. Psycho Killer by Talking Heads
7. Hush, Hush by Primsouls
8. Now by Primsouls
9. Let My Love Open the Door by Peter Townshend
10. The Town Called Malice by The Jam
11. New Sensation by INXS
12. I'm Sorry by Hothouse Flowers
13. You Sext Thing by Hot Chocolate (all time fav)
14. Let Me Go by Heaven
15. Local Girls by Graham Parker
16. China Girl by David Bowie
17. Close to Me by The Cure
18. Mustang Sally by The Commitments
19. Try A Little Tenderness by The Commitments (just because I like it)
20. Train In Vain (Stand by Me) by The Clash
21. Belly Of The Whale by Burning Sensations
22. Dancing With Myself by Billy Idol
23. In A Big Country by The Crossing (I think)
24. Shy Boy by Bananarama
25. Oblivious by Aztec Camera
26. Take on Me by Aha
27. You Shook Me All Nigh Long by AC/DC
29. I Ran by Flock of Seagulls
30. ... and the entire album of The Proclaimers "Sunshine On Leith"
Well, that's my workout song list in my iPod.
Happy Rowing!!!
Sylvia

Good grief...
I love tons of the music posted here, but I don't know how some of you ladies row to this stuff. I can't bear it if my rowing music doesn't have driving fast beats. It's either hard rock, heavy metal, or some variation of techno/trance/electronica. Metallica is good, GNR, Breaking Benjamin, Lacuna Coil, most recent cd by Avenged Sevenfold, Linkin Park, Korn...stuff like that with random techno mixed in. The music has to be working as hard as I'm working.

Can't believe that no one has mentioned CHEESEBURGER IN PARADISE. Several other Buffet songs for sure.

Well, here's how Stan Getz et al. fit into my workout scheme:

I've got plenty of fun thrashers in my mix, but they're purely for entertainment, not for fuel, and they're definitely not conducive to my best (such as it is) technique.

Spice Box by Helm & FCBD
Curtis Mayfield's Greatest Hits
And this AM I found a radio station that plays the music I grew up with. (Now why are they calling it "oldies"?
)
Nothing like some jammin' tunes to help the meters go by!

There are some ferocious lists. BTW really enjoying listening to the dj's. Thanks!
I have a very eclectic collection of music. Trans Siberian Orchestra has some great music that pairs up well with Nine Inch Nails, Metallica and Linkin Park. I also enjoy Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tub Thumping, selections from The Matrix soundtrack, and Bolero.
For mellow or long slow distance I love Robert Miles' Dreamland album, Enya , and Peter Gunn (not the tv show theme, the flautist). Sometimes one needs to be reminded of Zen and the art of rowing
Happy Rowing!

Wow, I've never seen such a range out there. I do have to say, that I actually get bored pretty easily and as pumped up as I can be by a tune, I can very easily be turned off by it.
That being said I'm still a little old school and actually have a six disc CD changer and rotate my cd's weekly. Here are the CD's that have been motivating me this week.
Buddah Bar I - Dream
Lenny Kravitz - 5
Last Days of Disco
Annie Lennox - Diva (good for warm up and cool down)
Earth Wind and Fire - Greatest Hits
The Clash - London Calling
Oh and Semisonic's Feeling Strangely Fine will be thrown in the mix as well.

My workout music is fast and/or hard...System of a Down, Basement Jaxx, etc. Sometimes I look at the monitor to see I'm doing 30 and didn't even notice. Perhaps I should look into slower music to try to slow down a bit.

Hello, everyone!
If anyone likes percussion, CDs by Dragon Ritual Drummers and Bellydance Superstars are good to mix in there. The drumming changes paces, so the music can start out slow, speed up, slow down again. Does well for some interval work.
No, I don't bellydance.
