Missing In Action

Post by fish » May 25th, 2006, 12:12 am

I haven't been at the forum very much because of the current atmosphere. I know there are many women that used to post here that have disappeared. I find it sad that this forum has become a Jerry Springer Show.

I also haven't been rowing very much. I made a commitment to commute to work and to do the Seattle to Portland Bicycle Classic. I miss rowing and am looking forward to getting back on the erg this summer after my monster ride. One of my goals is to do more racing online.

I want to say thank you to Alissa for reminding me that the Women's Forum is still a cool place to hang out. Another of my other goals is to avoid the rest of the forum.

I had a massive change of schedule so posting is a bit hard to do. I still check in a couple times a week, and am only posting now because the universe decided my kids needed to be awake early this morning...

time to row!

Good luck in the race... I miss the NW

Good luck in your race, Arlene. I've noticed the forum has about come to a halt since it was down last spring. I thought maybe it was the nicer weather and people weren't on line as much. With longer and warmer days now, maybe there is more to do that be on the computer. Hopefully you'll be back on your erg soon. I would think it would be good cross-training for the bike.

I try to get on the erg a couple days a week. I have mostly been erging to get the kinks out of my legs. The long bikes rides are getting really long.

Thank you all for your replies. I wonder if more people will return in the fall.

I uploaded a picture of me on my bike for my avatar. I guess I will have to change it when I get back to some serious training on the erg.

Hey there, y'all!

I'm guilty.

I sure haven't been posting as much since the beginning of the year because I got out of the habit. Actually, I was trying to get out of the habit of spending so much time on the computer and the internet, so this forum kinda fell by the wayside as a result.

But, now I realize how helpful and inspirational this forum was in keeping me rowing. I miss the challenge, and I need to get that back to get my meters up again. I haven't quit rowing by any means, but it sure hasn't been as much fun! :)

So, I'm just about to hit my second million meters of my erging career, and here's hoping I can do another 2 million this next season, hey?

What's everyone else been aiming for as a goal?

Hi Jen,

Welcome back. I haven't been hanging out on the internet very much either. I've been getting more erg time since school got out.

Have a nice day.

Hey Jen,

I'm also aiming to get 2 million completed this season. It's going to be pretty discouraging during the summer months when I'm on the water and I'm not racking up those erg meters, but come fall, it'll definitely help to have this as a goal.

Good luck to you!

Hi Aiko!

You should log your on-water meters too! See this from the FAQs:

Hi Fish,

My husband (66yo) did the STP a couple of years ago. His training paid off, and he was'nt totally wasted at tthe end of the ride. A warning-once you do some of the hard long rides you will want a lightweight bike and a general upgrade in all of your equipment!! nd you will have earned it!

Enjoy the nice weather this week-its finally here in the northwest.

I would, but I don't think they would count because I'm in an outrigger canoe, not a rowing shell?

Hey Fish and Aiko!

Nice to see you two (and lots of others) still on the forums. And wow, we have lots of new Ducks as well!

I finished up my second million meters on 6/19, and I already emailed KC Colt to get my new C2 socks. I have the t-shirt from the first million, so I figured I needed socks to accessorize. :D

Aiko, an outrigger canoe? That sounds totally cool!

Hey Jen!

Congrats on the second million! I just got my first million t-shirt last week.

Outrigger canoeing is really cool. I rowed throughout college and for several years after. I then took almost a five year hiatus from any regular exercise and took up rowing again after gaining almost 20 pounds. After one fall season of rowing, I switched to paddling because 1) I don't have to get up at 4:00 AM 2) I don't have to wait for the water to be glassy and be scared of boat wakes and waves, and 3) I can actually see where I'm going! I miss rowing sometimes, those times when everyone's timing is just right and the glide of the boat is is amazing, there's no feeling like it. But, I love paddling also and the feeling of community there is within the clubs. As long as I'm on the water though, I love them both!

Hey Grams,

My husband has a Cannondale that weighs less than my REI bike. I already had a thought about upgrading. Although maybe a Model D...

Hey Jen,

Good work on your 2 million meter milestone.
