Rowing challenge
Rowing challenge
Hey there,
So I’m a newbie to rowing and am enjoying it so far! My question is, is there a way to challenge someone to a fun rowing competition (for example, a 2k) if our sizes (height and weight) and genders are different? We want to challenge each other, but trying to figure out a good way to do it so that it’s fair and we get a good comparison. Any ideas welcome!

Re: Rowing challenge
Look at the average watts you pull.
A 8min 2k, just an example is 200 watts. On the pm you can see what you pulled, in time and watts.
Divide number by your weights. Highest number per kg/lbs wins.

This will help with the weight difference:

As for gender, perhaps comparing records at 2K for an age group close to your ages would help you to make your own adjustment. Unfortunately I don't know of any way to adjust for height.
Go for it and have fun!

Set the PM for time rather than distance, let’s say 7’. Winner is the first one to finish. Yes I know the man always comes first.

If you set the time for seven minutes both rowers will finish at the same time. The young lady will have a shorter distance covered.jackarabit wrote: ↑February 22nd, 2020, 9:42 amSet the PM for time rather than distance, let’s say 7’ [sic]. Winner is the first one to finish. Re: Rowing challenge
I just received a notification that someone [SIC]ked up my post. Upon checking, one is relieved to find the scholarly rubber vomit following hardon [sic] 7’ whereas one may be excused for having suffered mild trepidations that it might indeed succeed upon comes.
Back to my comfy chair, knit two pearl one for ribbing [sic], coffee and digestive biscuit at elevensies wot [sic]. Q.E.D. ad nauseum
This may help

Doh! I can't believe that I forgot about this, but so did everyone else responding.
Try the Nonathlon!
https://www.nonathlon.com/
It was developed 19 years ago by Paul Harris and Andy Nield, and adjusts for gender, Hwt/lwt, and every single age (not just 10 year or 5 years age groups). And lets you and your challenge partner compare 10 different ranking distances/times (30' & 60') if you're so inclined.
