Holiday Challenge 2019!
Holiday Challenge 2019!
Time to get the party started!
Dusted off my spreadsheet schedules from the past 2 years to make my schedule for this one. Updated the dates and adjusted goals for the week I'm on-call for work (more work hours, less sleep )
And I'm about 35K short of the 200k!
I'm blaming it on the short time frame (only 28 days of rowing, where the last 2 years were about 33 days).
Right now I'm leaving my schedule as-is. I'm not near as prepared this year as I've been in the past, so I may call it at the 100K mark or I may buckle down and go for it. I'll see how I'm doing at about 10-14 days.
Let's Go!

Re: Holiday Challenge 2019!
Hello there Sharkey, it’s good to see that you have started this thread and I will do my best to keep you company.
Happy Thanksgiving and I do hope that you are having an enjoyable day.
I read an article in last week’s paper that officially declared 70 ( was 65 ) as being the start of old age. How the heck do you define old age?
Therefore, ( she says, bristling with indignation ) I would like to reach 100k and if time and good planning allow, hopefully complete the 200k challenge again.
I have taken a mega dose of Sanatogen.

Re: Holiday Challenge 2019!
Hi! I am newish to rowing but I acquired a used Concept2 recently and decided to join this challenge to ramp up my training. I'm planning to follow the Concept2 calendar mostly with some modifications for the days that I go to the gym for strength training. If you have any suggestions for a newby, please let me know. Thanks!
Re: Holiday Challenge 2019!
Hi! Also new to this forum and just purchased my own Concept 2 for home . I love it! I would like to try the Holiday Challenge but am still trying to figure out how it works. Do I need to sign up or does my upload to Logbook suffice ?
Thanks for any advice

Hello there RLJINATX and also to Donna; Donna I see that Citroen ( Dougie Lawson ) has kindly answered your query.RLJINATX wrote: ↑November 29th, 2019, 2:23 pmHi! RLJINATX I do not feel confident enough to offer you any training advice but you may find the following information helpful.
If you look at page 1 of the January Challenge started by dykebert on December 29th, 2017 @ 10.27am. you will see an entry ( second from the bottom ) by lindsayh ( Lindsay Hay ) posted on January 4th 2018, @ 7.30am in answer to one posted by ' ornatewobbegong '.
I hope that you will find Lindsay's sage advice useful.
Good luck to you both and safe and sensible progress with your training.

Re: Holiday Challenge 2019!
Wow great to see all the posts! Welcome to the community to the newcomers!
I started off OK. Getting close to 16K while watching the Thanksgiving football games. Friday morning went as planned, and was feeling good.
Then Sat, to quote young Luke Skywalker 'Uncle Owen, this R2 unit has a bad motivator.' I didn't do a single meter, and Sunday only a few K. So it looks like I've decided on the 100K.
A bit disappointed in myself, but still better than just sitting on the couch, so there is that.
Happy Monday!
keep on rowing, just keep rowing.

Re: Holiday Challenge 2019!
Hello, I'm going to be trying to do the holiday challenge. I don't have anything as organised as a spreadsheet or a particular plan other than continuing to do the long workout of the day when I can and if I do a shorter session to do a nice long warm down to get a few extra metres in. I'm at just under 34k so far.
Enjoy your rowing!

Re: Holiday Challenge 2019!
Hello, I'm new also.
I've had the rowing machine for about a year. This is my first challenge and I'm participating at the 100K level.
So far, so good. I'm on track with the distance and the calendar.

Re: Holiday Challenge 2019!
Almost 2 weeks in, and I'm only at 32K!
Work has been crazy! I usually get a couple of good sessions in over the weekend, but instead I put in almost 20 hours of work!
Things are getting better so hoping to make up the meters so I can make the 100K!

Re: Holiday Challenge 2019!
How is everyone doing with the challenge? Only a few days left.
After falling quite behind, I was able to catch up and presently have a little less than 5000 m to row to make 100,000. I'm happy with my progress, because I've learned so much by doing this challenge.
Is Ducks in a Row still around? I love the name and chose them for my team!

Re: Holiday Challenge 2019!
Hello there djdj. Well done for getting back on track with the finish line in your sights now.
I do not know, their last post/posts seem to have been in 2012?
I hope that things are going according to plan ( organised or not quite so organised ) for everyone else, although Sharky, you are definitely cutting it a bit fine …
Due to being away and other unexpected commitments, it has only been possible for me to row 10 out of the 27 days available. I was able to complete the 100k challenge last Monday but any mad thoughts of completing the 200k again, soon hit the buffers.
Happy Christmas to you all and best wishes for the New Year.

Re: Holiday Challenge 2019!
Well didn't even come close to the 100k. By the time things got back on track I had 3 days to do 60k which wasn't happening.
A bit disappointed, but I didn't do any of the fail challenges as preparation (which I usually do), so I sabotaged myself.
Ah well, on to 2020!

Holiday Challenge come and gone. I started out planning for the 100,000 but found a good book to listen to so pulled out over 217,000+. I made sure to download my cool certificate.
Now, on to the upcoming January Challenge. I don't know about the rest of you but I'm a bit organizationally challenged so these things help keep me on task.
