I found belonging to the nonathlon forum/club to be a real motivator. You can put times in for 10 different events. so whether it's a long row or a short row it works, and it gives you variety in your routine. you can find it at

I used it when I was losing weight, and had great fun because I could put in all my scores as a heavyweight, and then I turned light weight (barely) and got a whole new set of scores.
