Ducks and Friends Together - Jan Team Challenge

Post by Surf Scoter » December 29th, 2008, 1:01 pm

Calling All Ducks.....Ducks and Friends Together is on board again this year for the Virtual Team Challenge. This is an open team for all Ducks in a Row, Families and friends of Ducks and anyone else who would like to join. First set up an online logbook. To find a team, click on the Teams link in your Online Logbook. Also, this year you need to confirm on the Teams page that you wish to participate in the January Team Challenge. That's it. Then, row, row, row and pull together for meters, heath and fitness.

Flock back to the forum for the JVTC

Post by Wood_Duck » December 29th, 2008, 9:24 pm

Thanks for leading the team. I haven't been on the forum since last January!

My goal is 50 K a week. I finished the HC 200K for the first time in four years. The good news is I have kept off the 40 pounds I lost two years ago! The key was to change my eating habits for a lifetime and not diet in the short term only to return to the habits that lead to the weight gain!

I am focusing on eating nutrient dense foods--veggies and fruits--Add to that some beans, nuts or seeds... It is amazing the variety of foods we are eating where as before it was meat, starch and a token veggie and cake or donuts, brownies, chips, and other snacks and lots of sugar candy.

I hope we all hear the call to return! I look forward to hearing about what's been going on in everyone's lives.

Goals

Post by Surf Scoter » December 29th, 2008, 11:03 pm

It has been quiet on the forum lately. It's great to see you setting a goal of 50,000 meters per week. I know when we set down our goals it is easier to keep them. So, I'll sign on with you for 50,000 meters per week, or 200,000 meters, whichever comes first! Let's get some more Ducks on board!! denise aka Surf Scoter

Hi guys...looking forward to the January Challenge, too. I fell off the Holiday Challenge wagon...started well but am writing a book and chapters were due at the publisher, which interferred with rowing. I just tried to select Ducks and Friends Together to activate that in my logbook and it says that the team's not registered. Not sure what I did wrong there...

Teams Page?

Post by Surf Scoter » December 31st, 2008, 2:00 pm

Hi Gail, We all drop off the erg now and then, so welcome back! Did you go to the TEAMS page from your logbook? There should be a drop down menu with a list of all the teams. Ducks and Friends Together should be there. You select the team and then also select below that you want to participate in the January Challenge. If you try to get it from your Profile you will not find it--that is where you join your regular team--Ducks in A Row. Hope you can try again and get on our team. If that doesn't work send me your team member's ranking ID and the email address you have stored in your online profile and I'll put you on the team. denise

Thanks Denise...I'm not sure I was clear...my logbook says I'm on the team but it says the team is not signed up for this event. I'm assuming now that it's all good and I'll start to row tomorrow AM!

Thanks and happy new year--Gail

Team Signup

Post by Surf Scoter » January 1st, 2009, 12:50 pm

Hi Gail, I sent you two PM's with some ideas for signing on the team. The process has changed slightly. If you were on the Ducks & Friends Together for the challenge last year, you first need to leave that team. Then you will be able to pick the new 2009 Ducks & Friends Together team from the drop down list. That may be why you got a message that the team was not participating. Then, select that you want to participate in this year's challenge. Good luck to all. The team is building, so sign up and start rowing! Denise

Great Start

Post by Surf Scoter » January 3rd, 2009, 1:35 am

Hi all Ducks & Friends Together. We have only 15 on the team so far, but we are off to a great start. I find pulling for the team motivates me to get out and ROW! In our first two days we are averaging 9,234 meters/day for the 14 who have rowed so far. Way to Go!! Let's keep the momentum going. We are still recruiting so if you know anyone who wants to join sign them up!! denise aka Surf Scoter

Hey Denise- thanks for taking on the team captain role. Also thanks for the advice on how to sign up. The part about leaving the team from last year made my attempt much easier as I too could not figure out how to join this year. Usually from the past we just click away and we are in. Great job everyone. I am off to row. I am also training for a 1/2 marathon, so I am splitting days with rowing/running!

Team Room

Post by Surf Scoter » January 9th, 2009, 10:10 pm

Hi Keep on Rowing. Do you have a nickname?? Anyway, I don't know if I mentioned that we have a Team Room under the TEAM heading. There is one for the January Challenge and one for the ongoing Ducks In A Row team. You might want to post any comments regarding the January Challenge over there. You are certainly working out a lot. Good luck with the marathon!! denise

No nickname, pretty boring eh? Thanks for the Team Room info as well. Thanks for your support. Hopefully I will make it. I have never done a 1/2 before, so we shall see. I just want to try it once to be able to say I have done it. Wishing you and our team good luck. Talk to you soon.

You can do it!

Post by Surf Scoter » January 12th, 2009, 11:35 pm

Hi Lori, glad to know your name now. It is great you are training for a half marathon. Keep us posted on how it goes. I did a mini triathon when I turned 40 and it was so much fun! Thanks again for joining our team for the challenge...any and all meters push us along. See you over at the Team Room. denise
