Many "Oldies" and "Newbies" would benefit from mimicking what she does, which is slightly different* than what she says.
*I'll leave that to y'all to figure out.![Laughing ](./images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)

Her hands drop (a little) at the start of the recovery.PaulS wrote:Many "Oldies" and "Newbies" would benefit from mimicking what she does, which is slightly different* than what she says.![]()

She's a rower, so that's pretty natural. I thought she meant on the same plane(s) during the recovery OR drive, not necessarily the same plane for both the recovery AND drive. (The latter could be okay for Erg only)BrianStaff wrote:Her hands drop (a little) at the start of the recovery.PaulS wrote:Many "Oldies" and "Newbies" would benefit from mimicking what she does, which is slightly different* than what she says.![]()
*I'll leave that to y'all to figure out.- contrary to what she says about hands should stay in the same plane.

But no, that's not the particular thing I had in mind.

In the video she implies that the knees should start to bend as you bring the arms forward. However, she correctly brings the arms first.
As for finishing high, I think that is a good thing to practice and perhaps exaggerate on the erg. In the water it will naturally flatten, but pulling high will help prevent dumping and help keep the blades buried at the end of the stroke where the natural arc of the oar would otherwise tend for it to start coming out and washing out.

Agreed. I've been at it nearly 9 years and I'm sure that I'd be both faster and less frequently injured if my technigue was as good as hers. I'll keep working at it.PaulS wrote:Many "Oldies" and "Newbies" would benefit from mimicking what she does, which is slightly different* than what she says.![]()

P.S. I was posted this here thinking women might appreciate a good technique demonstration by a regular woman instead of a huge man. I seem to have thunk wrong.

You probably thunk right. Just because guys feel the need to comment, doesn't mean a lot of women don't appreciate the video.Yankeerunner wrote:P.S. Hmm, I'll vote for the error being that she says that the legs and arms finish at the same time. On that stroke hers do, but on most of her pulls the legs finish first.
I agree with those who say there is too much layback at the finish. First of all, who wants to hit their breasts with the handle. On a more serious note, as a teaching video the layback is unrealistic for a beginner to control w/out injury.

We have a winner!
Yes, and the bit about pulling in, and up, at the finish.... Don't, it won't translate well to a boat, but if all you care about is Erg performance it is unlikely to hurt you, though it may not help either.![Cool B)](./images/smilies/icon_cool.gif)
