Suitability for Injury Recovery

Post by AndersSchm » November 22nd, 2019, 8:44 pm

Hi,

I am looking at a home exercise bike for helping with injury recovery while unable to take part in higher impact activities. I already have a rowing machine (sadly not a concept2) but have been looking at the BikeErg as a potential purchase as I see it as something I can use heavily during my recovery phase and then longer term for cross training when I return to my core focus of athletics and team sports.

I have a couple of concerns about the lowest resistance level of the BikeErg and whether it would be suitable for me and am looking for some feedback as I've seen some people claim it is not suitable for beginners:
  • I am not a regular cyclist however prior to injury I did take part in sport 3-5 times a week and could comfortably run for 2-3 hours
  • I am recovering from a leg fracture
  • My intention is to use strength and conditioning exercises with my rowing machine and an exercise bike to further this and provide cardio
  • I will try and do what my physio tells me!

If your fracture is healed and your Doc gives you permission I whole heartedly recomend the bike erg. The lowest resistance level is about the same as riding on level ground on a medium gear road bike. I bought mine when I was recovering from an injury and was not able to ride outdoors. A year later i used it exclusively for six weeks following hernia surgery. like I said, If your Dr. gives his ok, you woon't be sorry you purchased this stationary bike.

Since you can run for 2 to 3 hours, the BikeErg should be easy for you.
I got a BE in early August and the low setting is quite easy. The drag factor is 45 at the lowest.
You could probably make it lower by covering part of the fan cage, but that would likely not be necessary.

Thanks both, it is now at the top of my list and I'll report back if I get one.
