Maintenance - Flaking Paint etc.

Post by Ukfalc » December 7th, 2024, 1:17 pm

I have been a Bikerg user for about 3 years, and think it’s a fantastic machine.

My only gripe has been with avoiding rust and flaking paint. I had an issue previously, with the paint on the black seat mount. I was then sent a new machine about 12 months ago, after the paint on the body of the original machine started “bubbling”, due to a likely rust issue. Now, the paint on the outside of the right pedal of the replacement machine started flaking off.

The machine only gets about 4-5 hrs use per week. I have always tried my best to look after the machine, using 3-in-1 oiled to lubricate the moving parts and placing cloths and plastic sheet where I can on the machine when in use, to try absorb sweat and keep sweat off it. I also wipe it down with a dry cloth after use.

I suppose some wear and tear is inevitable, but I don’t expect issues with flaking paint/rust in the circumstances. Am expecting too much?

I am at a bit of a loss what to do about the latest issue with the flaking paint on the pedal (contact C2, repaint the pedal myself with black metallic paint, buy a replacement, or just put up with it).

Does anybody have any tips/advice for looking after the machine and avoiding issues with flaking paint and rust?

Weird. Do you store it in a very damp location? My BikeErg is also about 3 years old; no problems with the finish. All I do is wipe off the sweat.
