Hello - my positive experiance.

Post by BeardyTimbo » February 20th, 2022, 7:34 am

Hey all - recently purchased my BikeErg as I'm looking to get fitter.

I think I've been using the bike for 3 weeks perhaps and I've already lowered by blood pressure by a fair amount. Its amazing how quick your body improves! I just wanted to give a quick over view from my perspective for anyone looking to make a purchase. I originally was looking at other Smart bikes but the cost was a little too high for me but having the ability to connect to Smart Apps was really important to keep me interested.

The build of the bike I have to say is fantastic! You can see the frame is built to last and I am 100% happy. The noise of the bike was mentioned on another post but honestly I think this is much quieter than my old Novo turbo trainer I had a few years back. Its easily adjustable too, I think my only not would be its kinda tricky to adjust the resistance on the fly without stopping pedalling slightly. But this isn't a big deal really.

Sooo software.. I think I've tried Zwift, RGT Cycling, Wahoo Systm,Xert and lastly Trainer Day the one I chose (and years back I used Trainer Road but the cost seems to have doubled now so I ruled that one out). I was looking for something that would give me sensible adjustable workouts that didn't burn me out.

Initially I tried Zwift, I think everyone knows this software. I like the interface and the social aspect. But honestly I think the workouts plans etc included lack what others offer. For me I think I'd use Zwift for Races later once my fitness is up but for now other software is better. Its around £14 a month.

RGT Cycling, again great socials (and a free limited subscription not just a trial), but I didn't like the workout plans. A tenner a month I think?

Wahoo Systm - great videos, media and plans but I felt its aimed more at people who already cycle rather than beginners. The rides were all quite long! My mate loves this platform he uses it for the cycling, yoga, stretching etc and he's a very very good cyclist!

Xert - I really liked this platform the metrics used are very interesting and the adaptive training is excellent. I watched all the intro videos and it all makes sense to me. My only problem is with the amount of shorter rides in the database, I just don't have time for really long rides. Other platforms have more but I might have a look at this later when I improve (around £7 a month I think so reasonable)

Trainer Day (the one I chose) - Didn't initially work with the Concept2 Bluetooth which was a shame as it looked to be the most suited to me as it offered a good sensible\adjustable training plan and also was the cheapest! (£3.99 a month). The software and website are basic (although they have a great workout builder in beta that you can use) but it all does what it says on the tin. To me it felt like a simpler version of Trainer Road (and I liked Trainer Road years back). Amazingly their developer actually spent 30 mins with me and fixed the issues between the Concept2 and their app and sent out a patch of rthe apps and it now works! Hows that for service? At the moment the patch is in beta (so you have to sign up to Beta version via Appstore or Playstore)

Anyway I hope this helps out if anyone is looking for an over view, let me know if you have any questions

Cheers

Tim

Hey Tim,

Are you still using TrainerDay? Wondering if I could ask you a quick question. I’ve recently installed the latest version and on first use the watts on screen don’t match with the watts on the PM5 monitor. Like 50 watts out.

Nevertheless, when using TrainerDay how do you sync data to ErgData / Logbook? Because I think you can only pair with one App at one time?

Thanks

Glad you are liking the bike, it’s great isn’t it.
I enjoy just trying to improve using the WOD and seeing how I compare to everyone else on the honorboard (badly) and improving my scores on the ranked workouts
I see FIIT have now started incorporating the bikeerg on their app platform, they have a 2 week free trial so you could see if it is any good.
I have also seen a lot of good thing about Fitness Matters by Sam Blyth who has a bikeerg training plan. It’s great to see the bikeerg getting more love.
