calibration issues
calibration issues
Hi there, hope everyone is enjoying their bike ergs and taking part in the holiday challenge! I have for the most part been very impressed with the bike and have really been using it a lot but have been having some issues with the bike displaying the wrong pace midway through a workout, for example i might be holding a 1:55 pace and my cadence, heart rate and effort have not changed and the bike will suddenly say i'm going at 2:15 pace when i know i can't be! I am guessing this is some kind of calibration problem unless its something i am doing wrong, I do occasionally stop for water on just ride mode unless its this that is throwing it out? surely you must be able to stop for a moment without having these issues? Its happened on ranked rides too and i am regularly calibrating the bike! was just curious if anyone else is having any issues like this as i am finding it quite frustrating and is ruining my enjoyment of the bike when it does happen which isn't every ride thankfully! I will send a email to concept 2 to see what they think but was curious to here from other users.

Re: calibration issues
Never heard of this issue before. When you say 'stop for water' do you mean stop pedaling completely? Of course the pace will drop right off if you suddenly stop pedaling, but if you're keeping your cadence up then no reason why it should suddenly go from 1:55 to 2:15. Could be something affecting the momentary drag factor read out that's causing an occasional drop off in pace. Don't know what, though.LloydyH85 wrote: ↑December 15th, 2018, 6:24 amHi there, hope everyone is enjoying their bike ergs and taking part in the holiday challenge! Re: calibration issues
A brief pause would easily cause the instantaneous pace to change that much.
However, average pace should not change that quickly.

Re: calibration issues
I am quite sure that what the OP meant was:
After a short pause, when starting exercising again, the instant pace is very different from before.
How is it, does the BikeErg recalibrate every time you coast, or only in the beginning of a session?
If it recalibrates every time it coasts, the OP's experience could be explained by a recalibration which has somehow gone wrong.

Re: calibration issues
thanks for all the replies, yes that is correct After a short pause, when starting exercising again, the instant pace is very different from before and then even if i stopped the workout and started a new one with all the settings the same i would not be able to get back to my original pace. It's almost like the calibration goes out and becomes harder on the same setting, this can happen randomly like 50 mins into a workout which i find a little strange, just worried its a issue with the bike, otherwise its possible i'm doing the calibration wrong somehow but i would have thought it would happen at the beginning of the workout if that was the case.

Re: calibration issues
Are you sure that the drop in pace relates to the entire ride and not just the current split? TBH, I’ve never used the C2 bike erg but on the rower, a pause, even just to glug some fluids or wipe my face with a towel, produces an instant plunge in split pace, though not in total session. If you have both figures — total ride and split — on display, does the drop in pace show in both figures?

Have you found a resolution?

Re: calibration issues
Hi Everyone sorry for the late reply, I haven't actually been using the ranked modes much as iv'e mostly been doing intervals and riding outside but now as the weather is changing i will on the Bike Erg more and using the ranked modes so will give it a thorougher testing and let you know, The bike whole calibration on the bike seems better since the last update on the few times i have tried it so hopefully it was just a firmware issue but i defiantly want to make sure

Re: calibration issues
Have had my BikeErg for about 5 weeks and clocked up around 400km.
No issues with pace at all and getting some good workouts in.
Play around with DF. Currrently I set it at 140 for all work outs and rpm around 63.
I link up a HRM with it out of interest but don’t use zones or Watts for training purposes.
I tend to go by times on intervalsusing the Ave from the same session of the same as the base mark for the next session.
Usually I Erg in the morning and BikeErg in the afternoon.
Rotate the sessions intervals Erg/steady BikeErg, steady Erg/intervals BikeErg
