Taking part in one of Concept2's individual challenges? This is the place to talk about it.

Dog Days 2023

Post by BTE » August 18th, 2023, 9:44 am

Hello all - newbie here! I am looking forward to being part of the forum. Silly question first: I'm doing the August 2023 challenge and realised that in week 2 I'd logged the 20,000 miles but on monday-sunday and not on the specified days, I was one day out! Anyone know of a way to amend the logbook to reflect this?

Not really clear what you're asking. Your log book should reflect when you rowed the individual pieces - gets the date from the PM and puts it on that day. So if you did a 5k Weds and Sun and a 10k on Friday then the pieces will be logged against those days. The Dog Days challenge looks after the accumulation.

But if you've just manually updated with no link to the PM then I guess you could delete any pieces on the wrong dates and reenter when they were done. Its an honour system...

Logging 20,000 miles in wk 2? Prolly should amend that result if only for the practise at remaining awake and alert. I understand that you intended to say 20k meters. And you intended to follow instructions. Perhaps you should restrict yourself to just intending to revise your logbk to date and focus on not needing to in wks 3 and 4. I’m off to do a 5 parsec warmup.

BTE, the fiddler does indeed call the tune and C2 sets the terms of execution and the record keeping schedule for its ingenious “silly bugger” exercise in progressive physical overload. You’ll be a dab hand at the minor challenges of auto and manual entry in no time.

Of greater importance, imo, is the lesson in how to stay the course at a sustainable pace which attempts to balance work and recovery and avoid physical breakdown. Simply put, this is a dogtrot, a get-up-and-do-it-again combined with the inverse plotting of decreasing physical resources against increasing physical workloads.

Luckily for us, the form may be Bataan Death March or transcontinental RAM but the duration and consequences are relatively benign. So this first time thru put in the time and effort to find out what it’s about and don’t sweat the details that produce a certificate of completion.

Thanks both of you. Looks like I'll just have to live with it. jackrabbit you're right that the real goal is doing the activity. The cumulative total is what really matters to me anyway - going from zero to now almost 50,000 meters is cool. I don't think I'll manage 100,000 but frankly I don't care!

On a separate but related topic, am I right in thinking there is no way to delete individual logs on the PM5 itself? My ex and I used to share the machine so their stats are on there. I don't mind but that means the total lifetime meters are combined, which is annoying. I don't believe that they ever used a usb to log workouts, just did them on the PM5. I always use the ErgData app to start workouts, as it sync with apple health.

Google seems to suggest that the only solution is a factory re-set, which would delete all the meters I've rowed this month... Is there any other way of deleting individual rows off the machine itself?

Yes, if you've got a USB stick? I can't remember if you'll need to format the stick on the PM or if any will just work. But basically you just put it in the USB port on the PM5 and wait while its recognised. You then need to select USB Memory. Then USB utilities. Then move workout. This will allow you to move the workout from the PM (once moved it will no longer be accessible on the PM). Once on the usb stick you can use Delete Workout to get rid of the ones you dont want on the USB stick. You can of course leave some pieces on the PM if you want but either way it won't change the lifetime meters on the PM which is an overall accumulation that is only affected by a factory reset.

Instead, especially since you already use Ergdata, why don't you set up an online Log with Concept2? Most of us have one and you can synch easily direct from ergdata. Not only does that give you access to all sorts of stats, incl lifetime totals, but if you ever make it to the 1million meters or further you get some freebies!
