I'm a confused by the 50K and 100K honor boards on the "Dog Days 2020" page here:

... are there really only 401 people on the 50K 'board (11 August 2020, 11:30AM UTC), but more than 16,000 people on the 100K? That seems counter-intuitive to me? If a rower is on the 100k board wouldn't they have had to pass through the 50k board?

The 50K honor board contains many rowers that haven't made it to 50K. The 100K honor board has lots that haven't got to 100k.

So perhaps the 50k board is for rowers under 16 that have the 50K total challenge goal? Nope: the 50k honor board has people in their 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s etc.

Just trying to understand how the honor boards work...

Here are the details from the C2 page:

The Details

Complete each of the following four distance goals during the timeframes indicated and log them in your online logbook:
Week 1, Aug. 1–7: 10,000 meters
Week 2, Aug. 8–14: 20,000 meters
Week 3, Aug. 15–21: 30,000 meters
Week 4, Aug. 22–28: 40,000 meters
The distance goals do not have to be done in one sitting, but must be done during the timeframe indicated. By the end of the challenge, you will have accumulated 100,000 meters.
For kids (aged 16 and under) and adaptive athletes, the weekly meter totals are as follows, for a total accumulation of 50,000 meters:
Week 1, Aug. 1–7: 5000 meters
Week 2, Aug. 8–14: 10,000 meters
Week 3, Aug. 15–21: 15,000 meters
Week 4, Aug. 22–28: 20,000 meters
Indoor rower, on water, SkiErg, on snow and BikeErg meters count.
Note: BikeErg meters are counted as half when applied to the challenge.
This is an individual challenge. There is no sign up. You do not need to belong to a team to participate.
Meters must be entered online.

Yes; I understand the challenge itself. I did read the page from which you cut & pasted for your response, but it does not explain the distribution of entries on the honor boards. Re-read my original post, perhaps?

on the 50k board there are entries from 0-16 year old and adaptive athletes who completed week 1, on the 100k board there are >16 year old non-adaptive athletes, see bold text from my response. For me this exactly explains the entries.

OK, so it's really just a status board which displays those who have met each week's requirement.

Yeah, I think so. I assume that it works that way as it would otherwise just be unnecessary duplication and too much information.
