how to log a century?

I want to do the century challenge, but my PM5 will only allow me to enter a max of 50000 m.

If you go to intervals and enter it as a single distance interval session. You won't get any split information but that's the only way you can do it.

Best of luck with it, it's not a challenge to be taken lightly

You can set distances over 50K as an intervals workout.

Select Workout
New Workout
Intervals
Intervals: Variable
Distance (it defaults to 500m)
4th grey button until you reach the leftmost digit
2nd grey button (+)
1st grey button until you reach (5)
five presses on 3rd grey button (-)
5th grey button and row.

I just want to say thanks to you guys for this post. I was wondering how to set up for a century, having competed a marathon last month. I then saw dagerousscouse's times... and had a rethink... I am glad I did. I completed the half century just now, but by the end I was on the ragged edge! Had I not see this I would not have got credit for my half century so big thanks!

Well done, 50k is a massive effort and something very few of us will ever do.

If you want to do 100k, keep chipping away at the longer distances as you will adapt to them with repetition. Your performance and energy doesn't keep declining on a straight line, so there will be ups and downs as you keep going and even though 50k may have felt like that was your absolute limit, it may not be if you keep going.

Mental strength is a massive part of doing ultra distances as you have to have your mindset in the right place otherwise your mind will be your worst enemy when you inevitably hit the really rough moments.

I'm not sure setting up intervals will work. I tried with the PM5 and with ergdata on Android, and it won't let me use 0 as a rest interval. If I put in a nonzero rest interval, then it won't really be 100 km in one go, so maybe won't count. I don't want to risk going to all the trouble of rowing 100 km and then not get credit for it.

Has anybody actually done this and gotten it to work?

Yes. I did it with variable intervals and no rest the first time, but you can also use Ergzone to do it. I got 85k into another attempt before I totally hit the wall and I used 12.5k splits and it recorded it up until then.

I think that Elizabeth has done it using Ergzone too.

OK, thanks. I never would have guessed that variable intervals would let you have 0 rest periods when fixed intervals won't.

Yeah it is weird, but it does work although the final reading will also give a strange figure below the 100k. Not sure why, but everyone who has done it using variable intervals has had it.

It's nothing to worry about and it doesn't make a difference other than leaving you puzzled

Variable intervals with 0 rest periods won't be considered a rankable workout. It has to be a single 100k interval.
With the ErgZone app works different because the app is smart enough to configure the workout as single distance, so if you have 10x10k with no rest in between, the app will configure as a 100k single distance and it will be a rankable workout.
If you have the ErgZone app installed then you can use this workout that is configured as 20x5k https://app.erg.zone/w/5ORhYi0SSkeCPMmuw1dYfQ

I programmed it directly into the PM5 as a single variable interval of 100k. This was before I started using ErgZone, though. ErgZone definitely allows 0:00 rest, I used it like that earlier this week, but I haven't tested whether if it produces a rankable piece if ALL of the rests are 0:00. My log entry just shows 100k with no split data, and I really like the idea of having that more granular data and also having those pre-built milestones. I can also see thoughtful splits being really helpful for tandem attempts.

Firmware back in 2020 didn't allow it. It does now, as of this year i think.
