Holiday Challenge - Incredible Meters???

Pure human psychology.

People fudge the numbers mainly to see their name in lights at the top of the leader board.

Most people cannot understand it and come out with comments like "They are only cheating themselves", if that's the case and its only a personal challenge, don't bother putting up a leader board in the first place.

Money has nothing to do with it. Sometimes it could be a genuine mistake and probably in many instances they are not even using a Concept 2 rower so its just spitting out some distance that's not comparable to a C2.

While the manual entry system without verification remains, its pretty much stuffing it up for anyone who wants to take the Challenge seriously.

Used to row for the RowPro team but couldn't even get straight numbers with 30 or so rowers, pretty much nobody was using RowPro to row online and same problem the meters were not verified.

If you wanted to do it right its ErgData only and everyone has an open Concept 2 logbook.

Rationale to fake numbers? Notoriety, whether good or bad? Any attention is better than no attention at all?

I remember in the early years of the Honolulu Marathon, there would always be these schmucks who would post incredible times, only later to be proved liars.

Now that a certain representative has been expelled from Congress, with extra time on his hands, I'm hoping that Georgie, Tony, Kitara or whatever name he is presently using, doesn't decide to disgrace our forum with his creative lies.

Although I am not a participant, I favor using verified numbers only. Is the sun shining? Great!! You'll be able to time me!

While C2 is at it, I wish I could see rowerg vs bikerg meters for the Holiday Challenge ... just so I know where I stand with fellow rowergers.

I'd love to see this too! Or maybe just give a tabular breakdown by each Erg type, with total combined meters at the end and let us sort accordingly so we can compare however we like.

As someone who recently got a BikeErg to compliment our RowErg, it's weird tracking how much time and effort goes into each machine. I know C2 tracks and splits the meters automatically, cutting BikeErg distance in half before adding to my holiday total, but I'm all for comparing apples to apples as much as possible. (Those extra BikeErg meters feel awfully easy compared to earning distance on the RowErg. Pleasantly mindless too.)

Just a question from the peanut gallery.

I look forward to rowing the Holiday Challenge each year as a start to the indoor rowing season.

How can some folks put up extremely high meters almost from the start of the Challenge?

5,000,000 meters seems incredible to me. Also wondering how Concept 2 deals with the charitable match for the folks submitting this data?

Please enlighten me.

At what average pace ?

Anyone can break down the total time from their logbook into time units (minutes/seconds) that fit into the C2 calculator here to get the average pace

I used to use it on my total season meters and total time and managed 2:03 average pace for 2 million meters.

C2 could easily add a column in the results and do this automatically for you, it would add some perspective to the "Claimed" results

Its time for the annual "ErgData Challenge", at least make a start running one of these a year for all of those that want to join.
