6:45 2k! Reasonable goal?
6:45 2k! Reasonable goal?
I am 15 and have just joined a local rowing club. After practicing for 2 weeks with them for the final tryout we had to do a 7 min test which would determine if we made the team. With little training I did 1932 meters in 7 minutes which is a 1:48.7 500m split pace. My question is now that I am on a very competitive team which I will be training with 5-6 days a week and had a reasonable time from the get-go, would a 6:45 2k be a reasonable goal? I am new to the sport but really like it and am eager to improve. Thank you all for responding!

Times depend on the type of boat you're in, as well as the weather. Typically good 4- and 4x are faster than that, but demand excellent technique and years of practice.
On the erg, if you did the 7' test (273W) at rating 26 or less, then a 6:45 2k (340W) would be possible at 30-32. Otherwise you need a larger stroke, which will take time.

08-1940, 183cm, 83kg.
2024: stroke 5.5W-min@20-21. ½k 190W, 1k 145W, 2k 120W. Using Wods 4-5days/week. Fading fast.

At your age you can expect a lot of progress, being untrained is also a plus, but just picking a number is pointless, train serious, eat well, sleep enough and you will see how you do...bensalk wrote:I am 15 and have just joined a local rowing club. Just wanted to get back to you about my scores in response to your good advice. I am 3 months into rowing for my club and it is a great experience. In terms of my 2k, I just tested earlier this week and got a 6:51. So, I am pretty happy about my scores and am hoping to keep improving. Thank you very much, Ben Salk.hjs wrote:You are welcome, give it your best and have faith!
