Over the last several years,while rowing in the Holiday Challenge, when checking my meters I would constantly see the name of another rower. What caught my eye initially was that he was from the same state as me,Connecticut.(I actually work in the town he lives in) While rowing in this years JVC his name started to appear again and even more noticeably because he's our teammate on TIMBUK2. I have never met this gentleman or even spoken with him but over the years he has been an great inspiration for me. His name is Edwin Varley and according to his profile he is 80 years old and on or about Jan. 23rd of this year he reached 30 MILLION meters. He is also on track to row 2.5 million meters this season Now I don't know about effort % or fighting spirit but he certainly gets my vote for Rower of the Year! as well as continuing to be my rowing idol.
