Well I'm a big pussy, because I've stopped, or really cut back on my rowing, because my hands were on the verge of blistering. I didn't want them to end up looking like your Achille's heel.
I knew going from 3000M/day average to a half marathon/day was going to manifest itself somehow. I've got a race in two weeks and I'm not sacrificing the race, for the January challenge. Sorry team.

Sorry about those gross pictures, for what it's worth, I told him not to....
When your husband says from the bathroom, "honey, come here quick and bring the camera... ", you know that something weird is gonna happen.. or gross... or both. LMAO

You can't make a post like that and not expect some harrassment2whlrcr wrote:Well I'm a big pussy, because I've stopped, or really cut back on my rowing, because my hands were on the verge of blistering.

I'm sure we could all go on and on about blisters. In karate you get blisters on the soles of your feet. Try walking on that.
And hand blisters? There are old ladies in my rowing club (I mean over 65 years of age) who regularly have wounds on both hands.
But the worst I've ever seen was on a lovely little 14 year old ballerina who had just started using toe-shoes. Dude, she would've put Sean to shame, let alone someone "on the verge of blistering"!

That is the only rower that I know of that has been tricked out. Rob Hill of Man and Machine (the guy who makes the bars you see on the rower) actually bought that rower and had it custom painted for James Stewart and gave it to him. I'm not sure what else he did to the seat besides put a cover on it but you could ask him directly. Send him an email at rhill@manandmachine.com and him. He came up with that design so matbe he could help you with a KTM design!RadioFlyer wrote:Welcome Tim, Michelle, Dan, Dillon, LiteTruckRider and everybody else that joined recently. I looked at the team list and there are many names on it now and that's a good sign because I go back to work on Monday so I don't think I can keep rowing full montys every day after that. Plus I know I have an out-of town trip coming up this month so that is five whole days without a rower!![]()
So Tim, I was checking out RacerXVT and I came across this:
I want to pimp my rower out now!Do you have any other pictures of what people have done to customize their machines? I ride KTM so I'm thinking orange, black and silver but I need some ideas! The two things that stand out on James' machine are the TransformX bars (saving up for my own) and the seat. Do you have any info on what was done to his seat? It looks pretty comfy.
Sean
That's ok. I'm just looking at the big picture. I row to increase my fitness for other sports. If the rowing starts to hinder my main goals, I need to change my focus. I'm not gonna feel bad, unless I'm at the bottom of the team list for meters constributed. I don't quit a HS, just because my hands are blistered or I'm bleeding from a cut or crash. Now if I was a rower first, my hands and feet would probably look like hell.michelle wrote:You can't make a post like that and not expect some harrassment2whlrcr wrote:Well I'm a big pussy, because I've stopped, or really cut back on my rowing, because my hands were on the verge of blistering.:

That is a cool looking machine. It sure beats the ugly baby blue of my Model D.

And I was all proud of myself for lifting weights & doing 13.k yesterday. I'm clearly out of my depth here, but it's great motivation to have someone like you to chase. I pity the folks that race against you!RadioFlyer wrote:18K? Whatever! Here's another 30K for you guys that stepped it up.![]()

Now about that heel...
I hate to relinquish second place overall (where I was after my last row) but as you can see, it kinda needs some attention.![]()
I'm going to put some Amerigel on it and bandage it up and see how that works. I am basically rowing with my shoes strapped to the rower and my feet resting on top. I cannot fully extend my right leg because the movement rotates the blister right into the heel of the shoe. Without the shoe, it would be the plastic part of the footrest and that's even more painful. But anyway, it's only been slowing me down, not stopping me from rowing completely. It has added about 25-30% to my times and I am using my arms more to make up for the lack of leg extension. You know what though? I think it's going to give me hand and arm strength and for me that is a good thing.![]()
Sean
yeah I have the heel burn too.
what to do about it?

I hope everyone had a great weekend. We are still doing great and picked up some more team members. I was planning on doing a 1/2 marathon on sunday night after snowboarding and then whlie trying a rail slide I came down square on my Bumbar( Ann s 's word). I almost skipped it but with a little help from "Jason Bourne and the CIA" I managed through it. Hey come to find out he is a pretty good trials rider. The amazing thing is my but and back felt better after. Everone keep up the good work. - Greg

Sean, how is the Amerigel working out? I've never heard of it, but I just visited their website. Do you think the blister was a result of rowing more meters or have you recently changed to a different sock or shoe?

I'd try putting some on some Neosporin w/pain reliever on it, tape it up good & keep on rowing. I guess it all depends on how fast you heal. I know a guy who can get a wound like this & it be healed almost completely inside 72 hours. Me, it would take a couple of weeks, so I've just learned to deal with it.Hokie wrote: yeah I have the heel burn too.
