That sounds fine to me. I like the KISS method. My current 2K is pretty solid for me. I wish I would have been more of a sandbagger. :D

2K sounds good.

My current PB is 7:33 so I'm sure there's room for improvement. :D

Game on then. Anyone else up for the MX2K Challenge?

My PB in the 2k is 07:44.2 - massive room for improvement as well. That time, however, is over a month old so I think I am going to (re)test tomorrow. Any ideas on the re-test date(s)? We're already four days into February and we should allow for some taper time as well.

This could be very interesting since everyone has their own ideas on how to to train.

Game on!

I will have to retest on March 3 or 4 since I have an OTW regatta Mar.1&2. We'll see what a month of weights and intervals do. I was pretty well prepared for the 2k I just did. And although I was bragging about my gold medal, that was only for the West Coast. There are 5 locations across Canada that make up the full Canadian Indoor Rowing Championships. With results in from 3, I'm sitting in 2nd place.

Just go with your current PB or if you haven't pulled a 2000K yet, do it soon. Then just use your best time by the end of the month. I don't think it really matters when you retest. Do it as often as you want. Your best time, my not necessarily be your last test, doesn't matter.

It may all be moot for me, since I just threw my back out, trying to do a 500M PM.

We'll see how it is in the morning. Doesn't look good at this point.

I've had habitual lower back spinal issues. Xrays reveal nothing. Chiro helps some. I bought an inversion table a few years back and that helps just as much as anything else. I can go months with zero pain and then bam, something sets it off and I'm in pain. Everything from debilitating can't do anything pain, to just a nagging minor annoyance. It can last several days to several months.

Anyway, this is lower back again, but feels a little different. Might just be a lower back strain or maybe a combination of strain and disc pain? I'll be able to judge the severity better tomorrow. It's not that bad at the moment, but I definately feel it and I'm sure I will be off the rower for at least a few days.

When this happens, I can usually find some kind of activity I can do, instead of becoming a pure couch potatoe. Lots of times I can do selective lifting. Remarkably, I can usually ride my dirt bike too. I just have to be careful how I pick it up, if I drop it.

Be gentle while rowing!
Take special care regarding technique.
Here's a nice example of a good stroke from Xeno Muller on the single
(You may find some excelent erg sequences, sorry not to have the time to look for them right now)

Lower the DF (110-130 is enough!), warm up well, and don't do crazy sprints (Low pull, full-out 100-500m...)

Get better!

Too late now. I'm done for awhile and I'm afraid I just screwed up my early racing season. Hurts like hell this morning.

Just take it easy and be gentle to yourself.

I would suggest no MX for a while...

Just did my first and therefore PB 2000M - 7:56.3 - better than I would have guessed.

Bested my 500M just before the 2kM test - 1:42.4 - amazing how a few seconds affects your world ranking.

Yeah... pacing yourself (even on a 500M) is important. Today, I didn't come out of the box w/ the same fury as past attempts; was more mild and saved something for the end. Will get better w/ time. Same w/ the 2kM.

Edit: What that tells me is that there's a pacing/damper thing happening that I'm beginning to figure out. I just went and did (2) 500M pieces and backed up my earlier time; albeit exactly a second slower in each of them: 1:43.4. Some better tech, pacing, etc. and I'll shave an "easy" 10 secs off.
