Its about 11:40p here and looks like we are holding fifth place

Hats off to the big four on our team Len, Bob, Tom and Pat - all with awesome meters!

What a ride - what a tribute to the great spirit of a team really pulling together and, of course, the inspirational leadership of our captain!

“So he rowed the best he could, even when dizziness came over him and his arms and back ached. After a time, however, he didn’t notice his fatigue. His strength grew by the day”... Frans G. Bengtsson from “The Viking Ships”

Hi Timbuk2 crewmates!
Thanks for a great experience - especially today with the response to the 5th place challenge.
Thanks again, Pat!

  • Progress logged between Thu 31 Jan 06:00 GMT and Fri 01 Feb 12:00 GMT.
  • Fighting spirit is a measure of your proportional rate of ascent of the rankings. 100% means you've maintained your place in the overall rankings. If you were ranked at 200, and climbed to place 180 in the 2 days since you last logged any distance, your Fighting spirit would be ((200-180)/(200x2) + 1) x 100 = 105%. Similarly, if you were ranked at 1000 and climbed to place 950 in one day, your Fighting spirit would also be 105%.
  • A '/' means yesterday's logged distance has been split between the number of days since you last logged any metres (or day 14, when these stats were started.)

Look at those distances! 6 of our rowers did 30km+ in one day, and Shirley and Karen...well, what can we say? Thank you seems best...What determination.

When the going gets tough, the tough get rowing.

And what a challenge it was. The HAVK Mladost did an amazing job trying to catch up with us yesterday. I'm almost hesitant to say it since it may appear to belittle our own huge achievement, but would you believe what they rowed yesterday in an attempt to catch us? 1664km!!!!!! That's over 1 million metres more than us in one day! It really did take all we had to hold that one off, but we did, and we did it with style.

It's hard to believe that we're actually done. Nathaniel, thanks for posting the final stats - I really looked forward to your daily reports, it was such a great way to keep the team informed, to recognize team members' contributions, and help us set our daily goals ( to which the final day's stats clearly attests). The last day stats were amazing - what numbers! ...and Shirley - cowabunga - what a mighty finish! Thanks again Pat for your inspiring leadership. I bought my C2 in mid-December never expecting that it could be so much fun and I have Timbuk2 and the just plain good luck of picking such a great team to thank for that - 100%. Today's a day off then on to competition Saturday (what, only 2,000 meters!), Tibuktu, and the next big challenge when our team is called up again. Thanks all!

If anyone's interested, my hacky little stats generation program can be downloaded. You can generate the daily reports for any team on any day between 14th and 31st of Jan. Should run on most Unix-based platforms, and may run on windows if the "Ruby" programming language is installed. Probably not very much fun now it's all over.

Thanks to all on Timbuk2. It was a great challenge. I came to the team because I thought that my regular team's daily goal was more than I could commit to. I told Pat that my goal was between 7 and 10K per day. Pat welcomed me to the team and I am glad that he did. Thanks Pat! Thanks to the team's spirit and committment to each other I actually averaged slightly over 11K per day. On the days that I did not want to get on the erg the team is what provided the motivation to get going and get rowing.
You all have been great. Now I have to determine whether to stay with my regular team or join TIMBUK2 if you will have this old man.
In either case I would like to join all of you for the next challenge.

OK..so now it's over. The rowing will continue. We now have a challenge for Valentine's day..piece of cake.Right TIMBUK2/TIMBUKTU/TimbukTOO????It is just the right amount of meters to keep us in that motivational mood.
So keep on rowin' and adding up those meters to be in the Million Meter Club. The prizes are pretty nifty.I have a nice set of Concept2 Glasses that look nice displayed in a lighted corner *** DELETE - SPAM *** cabinet.Trophies for my hard work.
Don't forget to order your JVC08 goodies. They have great mugs that will always remind you of the ride of your life!!!I have one from the Holiday Challenge and it looks great next to my computer.
I have suggested to Concept2 that they make us a small model of their Erg so we can show it off.I have a place on my shelf for it.
Happy Saturday and after a day of rest..
JUST ROW!!!!!!!

Pat
Thanks for stopping by today. As usual, I loved your picture and I couldn't agree more. Unless I did something wrong, I joined team TIMBUKTOO a couple days ago. Is there a way for you or me to make sure? Did I understand that you were in the process of setting up a forum for team TIMBUKTOO?

Hi Sandi!!
I don't see you on the team yet.To see if you have been successful in adding TimbukToo to your profile you can click on Team Standings to see the list of all teams and their rankings.Just edit your profile..and choose the drop down menu with the list of teams and add it to your profile page.Be sure to go the bottom of the edit page and click on "update".Let me know if you need more help.
There should be a forum section for us in a week or so.We can use this section 'til then.

Hey,

You all did a fantastic job in the JVC this year, and we really enjoyed your visits to our Team Room.

It will be fun to go neck-and-neck again in the next challenge, but I think we are in for trouble as your team grows in number. We have a few more people than you, but your average is higher than ours.

Pat, you did a great job recruiting for your team, and supporting them as the captain. I wish you all the best as we finish out this rowing season.

Maybe we can get a little inter-team challenge going between us for the marathon challenge...we can watch who is finishing their marathons, and see which team has more marathon completers each day of the challenge.

Nathaniel, can you make a stats sheet to monitor this?

I recall that last year some people did more than one marathon during the two week challenge period, so you would want to allow for that type of performance, too.

Whaddaya' say, guys?
