Hi Dave and Marvin,
I too need to "shed" some pounds. Just turned 39 in October and with two kids, a desk job, and a love of snacks, I'll be joining you in that boat!

Hi, everyone!

Post by barbbesal » January 2nd, 2008, 10:39 pm

Thought I'd introduce myself... I'm Barb, and I'm from Virginia. I've been rowing very sporadically for the last 3 years or so (my college roommate was on the crew team at school and I kind of picked it up from her), but I'm looking to give it a little more dedication this year. Like Dave, Marvin, and Tom, I'm also seeking a little weight loss as well :)

I just want to say that I was overcome with glee when I read through the forums while looking for a team. When I got to this group, I knew I had found something special. I can tell this team is a GREAT support system! It's so wonderful to meet you all! :D

GO TIMBUK2!!!

Take care,
-Barb

I like this one :

"The pain of disipline is far less than the pain of regret"
- Sarah Bombell, synchronized swimmer

So we row every day or every chance we get and never regret that decision.

I see that you have a Bob S. on your list. I just want to make it clear that it is not the member that uses Bob S. as a message author name and sends in a lot of crap to this forum. I am that Bob S. (i.e. the crap sender) and I am a (or rather the only) member of the Owens Lake Yacht Club team, which I have not entered in the JVC this year and I seem to be still listed from last year as a member of the Long Beach Rowing Association team, which seems to be listed for the JVC again this year.

Bob S.

P.S. In 2006, the OLYC was in second place in meters per member at the end of the JVC, but somehow the first place team Mississauga YMCA (CAN) (also a one member team) disappeared from the list at the end of the month and there I was sitting on top. In 2007, the word was out that you could sign up for more than one team, so I signed up for the LBRA group out of loyalty to my old OTW club. It turned out that the information was incorrect. My signing up for LBRA apparently cancelled my participation in the JVC as an OLYC member. It was still intact for the season competition, but not the JVC. I assume that the "more than one club" rumor was a matter of being able to be on different teams for the different competitions. (For those who are unfamiliar with the Eastern Sierra Nevada area of California, I might point out that the only yachts that ply the waters of Owens Lake are toys in the swimming pools of the City of Los Angeles.)

PJ,

No, I didn't think that you put me on the list. But, as I am named that way on the forum, I just wanted to make sure that any forum members that read it didn't think it was me.

Going strong!

Post by barbbesal » January 3rd, 2008, 6:31 pm

Whoo! I was a little sore today from my first volleyball match of the season last night, but I got on the erg today, and I'm so glad I did! It took me a while to warm up and shake off the rust, but in the end, I beat my 5000m time from 1/1 by about 4 seconds!

Time for water!! :P

GO TIMBUK2!!!!

Thanks for the Welcome, Pat! I'm from North Carolina and live on a lake. The lake water is a bit cold right now, but it's warm indoors on the C2. :)
