after rowing: fizzing ear and dizziness

Post by Jamleach » October 22nd, 2009, 10:14 am

Last time I rowed I pushed myself the last 200meters for a 30second improvement on my time. However, once I stopped and stretched out, I started hearing a fizzing sound in my left ear which grew and grew, until I felt almost like a blockage in my ear, and finally had to sit down cause I got so dizzy. After I lay down for 15mins or so and took my shower, I was back to normal. I later researched on simtems on Google and it said something like "Meneir's Disease" this is the first and hopefully the last time I have gotten this, so I doubt I have a disease. Any thoughts into this? I eat relitively healthy, but I may be lacking a vitamin in some kind of food...idk

Thank you for any help into my problem

Jamleach,

Just noticed your quiry. The following anecdote may be relative to you versus jumping off into graver issues based on googled symptoms.

We were at dinner recently with friends. The husband, who had been treated for heart issues in the summer, told us he was recently walking and suddenly felt dizzy and nearly fell down. He had been complaining about ringing in his ears. His wife took him to a emergency clinic, where the doctor in his examination discovered large accumulations of wax in his ears. Once removed, his lightness went away and the ringing stopped.
The docotr advised him to let the warm shower water run into his ears every other day or so and then dry the excess water from ears with the towel, not a cotton swab. Any other moisture will evaporate quickly.

If you haven't had a recurrance, it's quite possible your warm shower dislodged wax. If you have had recurrances, by all means please see a ENT specialist and get a proper diagnosis.
