Kettlebell DVD recommendations?

Post by Blaze » February 22nd, 2009, 1:14 am

I've seen a few references on the forum about kettlebells, and I am considering trying them out. They sound like just what I want: simple and compact, with a focus on all-over strength.

For now, I just want to purchase an instructional DVD, but the selection is imposing. Does anyone have a recommendation? So far, the one I've heard most about is Enter the Kettlebell by Pavel Tsatsouline. A solid treatment of the basics is what I desire, with clearly displayed form, clear descriptions, and good video quality.

I've run across some discussion online about RKC versus AKC; I doubt it concerns me at this point, but maybe someone can shed some light on the issue. The plan is to start using a medicine ball now, check out the Kettlebell DVD over the next couple of months, and then purchase a kettlebell by Summer (assuming the DVD spurs my interest).

I've been using kettlebells pretty consistently for about 8 months now. Got hooked on them after watching a youtube video of Leon Robotham working out with one. Now i subscribe to kettlebellathletics.com and get some pretty intense workouts every couple of weeks or so. Outside of an erg this has been the best bang-for-the-buck in exercise equipment i've purchased. Wouldn't sell my kettlebells. Started out with a 35lb bell and now swing a 45lb; about ready to purchase another 45lb bell. Should also say that i supplement the bells with a pair of gymnastic rings hung from my garage ceiling for some body weight exercises like dips, chin-ups, push-ups, muscle-ups, l-seats, etc.

I'm glad to hear the endorsement. You've hit the nail on the head with "bang-for-the-buck." That's how I view the erg, and the kettlebells sound like the other part of the equation. I'm a bit behind you on the fitness curve, as there's no way I could handle doing muscle-ups now.

PS I just looked up L-seats, and those look even tougher.

Kettle bells

I am just getting started with the bells. I bought enter the kettlebell video first and then found the book later. My suggestion is to by the book and DVD as one package to get the discount I think they are better together.

I Highly recommend this program...For men we use a 35# KB and for women a 20 or 25# KB

Good luck comrade!

I've decided to order Enter the Kettlebell, based on your recommendations. Thanks for the input, comrades.

I'd also recommend a TRX from Fitness Anywhere as an added great tool
