This Mother's Day weekend I had a pain in my right side while doing nothing (just reading). It wasn't very bad and being a Saturday I waited two days to go to the doc. An x-ray showed my lung had spontaneously collapsed 40%. I was sent to the ER to have a chest tube inserted to reinflate the lung and stayed in the hospital overnight. The chest tube was a lot more uncomfortable than the collapsed lung, BTW.
My pulmonologist says my CT scan is clear and I can go back to easy cardio but no weights (which I did several times weekly) for at least a coupla months, and then I have to be very careful to do proper breathing, esp not hold my breath on exertion. I tried some easy work on the stationary bike and want to get back on the rower soon but it's hard to go easy on that thing.
Has anyone out there dealt with this? Apparently skinny white guys are more prone to it.

It's very easy to lighten the workout on the C2 rower. I had to do that when I had my left arm (busted radius bone after a cycling accdent) in a plaster cast. I started back rowing one handed. Until a week before the cast was due off.
- Drop that lever on the side of the machine down to 1 or 2.
- Don't tie your feet down.
- Row nice steady strokes at 22 strokes per min or less.
- Don't worry about the numbers on the monitor (watch the time go by on a wall clock).
