Please help me gain weight...

Post by Californianrower » October 23rd, 2014, 12:36 am

Hey, I am a skinny rower who is trying to gain weight.

I am 15, 6'4", and almost 160 pounds.

Any tips or suggestions on how to get extra calories into my diet?

Spaghetti alla Carbonara, risotto, pasta and beans. All things you can do easily and quickly at home. And if you get yourself an Italian cookbook, about a million things similar. A great way to learn a language, and maybe quicker than Chinese or Arabic.

And don't worry anyway, I was 6'2, 151 lb when turning 17, but 175 at 20 y. I know because it's written on my blades. Now 85 kg because I've gone metric, but I'm not writing it anywhere except here.

Eat energy dence food, focus on fats and protein, around training also eat enough simple carbs. Those spike your insulin level and that will drive energy and building blocks in your cells. Also a great way to get fat, but that does not apply in this case. In short, eat more.

You got lots of growing time left at only 15.

Train hard and enjoy your food!

I'm agreeing with you. As in, "Do what this guy wrote".

My current program includes Wendler's "5/3/1", with the Concept2 factored in for conditioning.

slowly start to increase your calories. I would start by adding extra fat to your diet and then slowly start to add in extra carbs. How's your appetite? What's your workout schedule like? Are you eating after your workouts? What are you eating postworkout? sometimes just adding an extra meal or two during the day will be enough to get you get you started without making you feel sick from over eating.
Start weight training if your not already. If you're not hungry then weight training will help with that and get Protien and carbs in your body right afterwards. Oats, rice, eggs, chicken, tuna, cottage cheese...etc
