I'd suggest find another Physio and get a second opinion. Unlikely that a missmash of amateur indoor rowers on a public forum will come up with a better plan than the professionals for a bona fide medical issue...

Talk to your Physiotherapist about the pain, see if it is more than expected, or typical. OA hurts. OA therapy hurts. But it shouldn't be intolerable. There are drugs that help the pain, and likely therapy modifications that can help.

FWIW my bother had less pain a day after hip replace surgery than he'd had for months prior (and he got taller), but he was in bad shape. Some strong rowers are on artificial hips. Almost everyone I played volleyball with in 90's is bone-on-bone somewhere, essentially the advice they got from their various doctors is run it until you can't then replace it. But put off replacement if you can using ice/heat, ibuprofen etc. Your doctor should have given you expectations on how your OA and OA treatment would progress. Double check with them if you are not sure.

This may help: https://www.arthritis.org/health-wellne ... oarthritis If you do end up using over-the counter painkillers tell your doctor. They'll want to do periodic blood tests to check for liver and kidney damage.
