Heart valve Replacement

I've just had my aortic heart valve replaced through the ribs, at 64, a shock. But hey ho, I will go along with the docs , up to a point, as their ideas on exercise have been weird at times so far. Has anyone any experience of this sort of thing with regard to rowing? I assume the usual time to start training again after 3 months ,easily at first, but any ideas of how your of your recovery was would be useful, but please bear in mind the UK treatment is always slightly more conservative than that in the USA, and cheaper.

Welcome to the forum. Former RN, medical telemetry & cardiac care nurse. Why not take the advice of your cardiac surgeon & the physical therapists who are familiar with you & your medical history? A forum such as this is not the place to be shopping for therapeutic advice.

Thats not bad, got a mate who had one replaced and he is over 10 years younger than you.
I think he went with titanium or something apparently he can here it click click click which would freak me out but I guess it makes measuring your resting HR easier and if that happens to be 60bpm it helps you tell the time.

Must think you had the op in order to return to Life. So start now.
Our basic metabolic rate is about 20W or 100kCal/h. Any exercise, even walking slow, will double that. So try it but listen to the signals.
In due time, double again. If you have a C2 rowing or Cycling ergometer, it's very simple, showing power directly. Start like a beginner, short weak strokes, arms only or similar on bike and not too many per minute.
Failing an ergometer you can always use HR. Your consultants must have said something. Exercise Is exercise, however weird it may seem. Most think rowing itself is weird.
