Hi all hopefully someone can assist, I’m pretty new to rowing and looking to loose weight and get fitter, can anyone recommend some good literature to get me better.

Concept2, Dark Horse and Aram training videos are ideal as rowing is very much visual so you'll be far better off watching and listening to advice.

If you pull long strokes with even relatively low force (on low drag) you'll find it quite hard work. The C2 videos show how it's done. Keep the number of strokes down to start with, both in total and per minute, but make sure they are good ones.
If you want to know how much work you are doing, set the monitor to read Watts. The numbers that C2 shows are real and accurate.
There's also a way of seeing heat (in kCal) produced, but the numbers are usually low. The erg offers a good way of getting fit, none better; but this can be done without producing vast amounts of heat, due to our high efficiency.
However once fit, it's possible to increase our activity and do plenty of work elsewhere too; it all adds up.

I highly recommend looking into regulating your diet too, if you haven't already. It's easy to underestimate the importance of your meals in the weight loss process, even if you're working out regularly.
