Introducing myself.

Hi guys.
A big hello from Devon, Gods country.
A new model D owner and looking to improve my overall fitness. Its unlikely I will ever be an Olympian :D but even a small improvement is better then none.
I used to cycle a lot back in the day, not up to any recognised standard but I had fun.
Unfortunately osteoarthritis has laid me up for the last couple of years, 3 failed attempts at knee surgery has left me in a pretty sorry state which I am hoping to improve.
I would be grateful for any advice which would help me in that endeavour.
Thanks in advance for any help/replies.

Welcome Ray,

This should help ( this is the wrong thread for the by the way....you need to be posting on ''Training'')

Welcome Ray.

Remain very patient, concentrate on technique and don't think about other people's times; some of us have been rowing for many years, and finally, try and have fun.

There's lots of helpful people on here so don't be shy about asking for advice but there are no short cuts, as you probably know from your cycling days. Sweat and lots and lots of metres is what it's all about. All the best.

Hi Ray
The erg is a really good choice if you have bad knees. Mine are pretty dodgy but have been able to continue to train hard for some years now (40-60 kms a week) and the advice is that it will help delay the replacement too. Start steady and get your technique right and best of luck.

Thanks for the replies so far.
I was looking at the Pete Plan and I have to say at this early stage it looks a bit scary.
I think my best option for the first couple of months would be to get a reasonable technique, get used to the machine as this is my first time on a rower and try and keep my heart rate reasonably stable while rowing.
Any more suggestions are welcome.

63 and dodgy knees? Caution required. Frontloading volume and intensity has to wait on a bit of preliminary conditioning and technique building.
