Hi,
I am a physician who is applying for a grant to provide Veterans with chronic illnesses C2 rowers, SkiErgs, and BikeErgs for their homes and then encourage and track their use of the equipment. It would be helpful if you have a chronic illness such as Coronary Artery Disease, CHF, COPD, Diabetes, Depression, PTSD, etc. and you share your experience and advice with me. I would like to make exercise tracking an integral component of the medical record, just like blood pressure and blood sugar. Thanks in advance for your assistance with this.

It's fairly obvious that Steve knows the rules and that all of your initial communication (via private message, not by posting on this thread) has to include an element of explicit, informed consent and sticking to any laws that may be applicable to handling sensitive personal data.

If I see anything that's inappropriate on this thread, I will simply delete it.

Just to clarify, HIPAA laws do not preclude one from sharing his own personal health information.

I understand Steve's good intentions but I think that a project like this should be set up like a proper research project that includes a system to render individual medical details anonymously. To draw relevant conclusions - and make recommendations for a grant - about the effects of exercise on certain health issues one needs a proper program outline, set goals , standardised measuring tools and parameters and a lot more.

Who is "Steve", where's the recruitment flyer, what is the ethics review board approval number from the unknown university he is affiliated with? Then, where is the consent form (including my copy) that outlines details of the project, how my personal data will be stored and exactly what it will be used for?

No flies reporting back from their pm interviews with the spider?

I simply asked for advice. No requirements if information is submitted voluntarily to this forum (clearly no privacy). All I want to do is help people with chronic conditions. I am sorry I upset you so.

Dr. Weintraub - I was not at all upset with you or your initial post; however, what did turn me off was Citroen's patronizing response. I would be more than happy to work with you on what is, without doubt, a worthwhile pride project. I have been a member of a NIH peer review group for research grant applications, and I have authored a grant from NIDA (National Institute on Drug Abuse) that involved informed consent issues. Both of these professional/academic experiences happened many years ago. In addition, I do have personal experience with at least one of the clinical issues that you appear to be interested in.
