erging in the loft
erging in the loft
I was wondering about setting up the erg in my loft. I have easy access to the loft which means that if I could use the C2 up there I could just nip up for a session. At the moment it is a case of getting the car out of the way in the garage, extracting the C2 from behind bikes etc and then setting up, which sometimes to be honest has been enough to put me off. I have loads of space in the loft and some is boarded out, my concern is that the insulation up there is that glass wool stuff and I obviously don't want to be inhaling that. Do you think that as long as I am not disturbing the insulation there shouldn't be any floating about? I have even thought about constructing some sort of a "pod" up there so it would be a dust free environment. I just thought some others might be using their attics or loft space to train. I know the obvious answer is to leave the erg set up in the garage all of the time but I really do like to put my car away, especially now so as to have a frost free start in the mornings.
Re: erging in the loft
The erg generates a lot of air movement with the fan, not to mention the air movement your body will create.
So, unless you create your pod, I would not recommend it.

Re: erging in the loft
I had the same thoughts. Probably simpler just to carry on as I am. Plus, I have visions of a "Frank Spencer" moment, as the erg crashes through the ceiling in a cloud of dust and plaster as I cling on to the handle
Re: erging in the loft
I spent about £1K2 'converting' my loft especially for the C2 - insulation / chipboard flooring / plasterboard / velux / loft ladder / carpet - took me about a year to complete

Its a 1930's semi and isnt actually as big as it looks in the composite photos - was well worth it though - C2 ready to go at drop of a hat!

Re: erging in the loft
This is probably horrible, but I just set it up indefinitely in the living room! I have back issues and it's too much for my back for me to set it up at 5:00am (which is when I row during the work week). For Thanksgiving day and Christmas Day I do break it down and put it in a bedroom.
It's a good reminder/guilt trip for it to be set up too.
