Left hamstring and gluten getting tight

Post by Steve.gannon123 » March 9th, 2017, 6:11 pm

For a few months now i have been getting tightness in my left hamstring and glute after about 15 mins of rowing, I can get about 6-7 km done before I have to get off and stretch to clear the pain, I can go back again and do this, but it will tighten up again around 15 mins. I've tried stretching regularly during the day and I can't seem to get rid of it, I have started using a cushion for the erg but the difference is minimal. I don't know of anyone else has experience with this and if you have any ideas? Thanks

Sounds like an imbalance somewhere. Are you favoring one side over the other due to injury or other physical condition? Maybe a visit to a chiropractor can help.

Or, maybe your technique is causing it, needs some fine tuning. Post a YouTube link here of you rowing and you'll get lots of comments on it.
Mark Underwood. Rower first, cyclist too.

Ya I have visited a chiropractor and a physiotherapist and they seem to be at a loss to what is happening, my coaches can't see an unbalance either so maybe I'll post a video and get a few more inputs, thanks

I had this for a while. You need to do a regular stretching routine in addition to your practice. Should take about 20 minutes a day. Focus mostly on hamstrings and lower back a little bit.

Had that issue while in my kayak (a kayak stroke starts at the ball of the foot). Hamstring stretches using a resistance band is what solved it for me. Now I do them daily, as I'm at a computer a good part of working hours.

I do this, it works wonders!

1) pigeon pose - the best stretch ever! You can do 'easy version's to start with. Opens the hips really well.

2) and I this below.

I also I find sitting with bad posture on the sofa with my legs crossed (one foot over the other) on the coffee table does me no favours.

I don't if it is the same issue, but my left glute would roll over each time I would transition from the finish to the recovery. I corrected it by sitting taller on the seat (focusing on avoiding a rounded back) and by not leaning back as far.
