Hi, I am a lightweight rower at a top university. I am also a freshman. I never rowed before and walked onto the team after running track and cross country. My goal is under 1:40. The thing is that my 6k is a lot better 1:45.5. I think its because I dont have enough power. I am 6'2". Do you think that it would be helpful to gain 5-10 pounds before next season (I recognize that this is over the limit but I would cut a month or two out)

At 6' 2", and still lightweight, I would without a doubt look to increase some muscle mass....legs and shoulders.

The problem is proberly not lack of power, but lack of 2k specific conditioning. Don't worry about your weight, in due time the problem will solve itself. 10 pound of useful muscle is a lot.
