Weight Training and Rowing

Post by pmags33 » February 7th, 2012, 8:44 pm

I've been rowing 5-6 times a week for a bit now and can feel it's time to vary my workouts (I row to maintain my weight and for general fitness) by adding some relatively light weight training. However, I'm unsure how to integrate this into my schedule - row/weights on consecutive days followed by a day off? row/weights/row/day off? etc. Does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks!

Aim for lighter days when you lift and especially the day after lifting, which is when your muscles recover/grow. Maybe walk or something lighter on the day after lifting. Perhaps focus on the underused muscles. I'd suggest fewer exercises using big compound exercises done with some intensity. My core routine is 2 sets of dips, chins, mil db press and pistols + some core work twice a week (20 minutes if I rush) for a super efficient workout. Doing movements you can do long term and consistently is the top priority IMO.
