Help with Sore Hands / Carpel Tunnel

Post by mdpfirrman » April 30th, 2016, 2:32 pm

I used to suffer a bit from Carpel Tunnel but bought a very cheap device that seemed to help it. Since I've started rowing so many meters, my right hand (the same one that I had carpel tunnel in years ago) started acting up again. My wife recently has had some issues (unrelated to mine but similar) from holding her tablet too many hours a week.

Some YouTube videos (along with some devices) that I've found help with not only her but when I started doing some of these exercises and stretches, the pain in my wrist went away.

Something like the top one is what I have that has helped my hand / wrist tremendously. Something about all the gripping that you need to work the opposite muscles in your hand / wrist and it helps open up the nerves in your wrist.

As with the ulnar nerve/cubital tunnel problem in the elbow--keeping the nerve sliding in the carpal tunnel is the homeopathic approach which means a lot of assisted finger and wrist backbends, Tai Chi moves with arms that make one look like a refugee from Dancing With The Stars, and don't underestimate the value of the Mueller brace available from Walmart and other fine stores in keeping your wrists straight during sleep. And hook--don't grip--the erg handle!
