You can check this out to see where you stand:

Do you have a coach? A coach should be able to tell you what kind of training to do.

I'd say you know the answer yourself, if you don't. It's a yes....
I don't know how it works in America but in Ireland that'd give you a definite place on the Irish Junior Squad.
The best person to ask about improving would be your coach, he'd know your strengths/weaknesses.

Is that the full squad or a development squad for younger athletes?

Interesting. I've never paid much attention to development squads here in the states, but I'm not sure they are really geared toward athletes that young, at least on the male side. On the girls side, they have some stuff going on for younger athletes, but even that I think is reasonably new. If you don't mind, how large a squad do they usually take for development and is it spread out among a few clubs or one central location?

It starts age 16, but he'd be earmarked for a place in the development squad and may even get some training done.
I'm not sure about the size of the squad but I would put it at around 15-20, there is one centre in cork and one in dublin.
Erg score is only the first criteria, after that you've got to do 3 trials. There's only been 2 from my club who have actually made it to the squad that I know of and none are rowing with the club any more.
