Custom Foot Strap Idea - Deformed Feet

Hi all,

My feet have an extremely limited range of both dorsiflexion and plantar flexion so when I position my feet on the foot rests I'm all over the place with very loose strapping. I'm also unable to strap the feet in snugly without severe pain during the recovery due to the lack of range of motion in my feet/ankles.

What would fix me up is to be able to strap my heels to the top of the foot rests so that the foot rolls over the top of the foot rest before the drive. The idea is to eliminate all foot work but the heel.

Any ideas?

Try rowing without straps. You won't fall off the back.

I can't lean back far into the stroke then, right? Doesn't form dictate the need for the straps so I don't fall off the back? Or is it simply just a matter of good technique to go strapless?

With the proper sequence of legs/back/arms, the arm pull cancels out the backward momentum of the body. However, it gets chancy at high stroke rates (over 30spm) on a grounded machine. On the first try, it is best to keep the rate quite low, like 20spm or less. Once you get the feel of it, you can work your way up to higher rates.
