It shouldn't be. Lots of benefits being touted. I'll admit the longest I ever go without food is around 12-13hrs. That said, it's said to increase insulin sensitivity (even protein sensitivity), promote cell autophagy thus killing off weaker cells and increase mental alertness. I'll definitely experiment with this going forward - some benefits allegedly kick in as little as 12-18hrs.Dangerscouse wrote:Totally agree. And those have been proven to be non-existing. So just eat healthy, and dont fall for such bogus.

I'm too greedy and get too 'hangry' and distracted to go without food for that long.

Check out the Snake diet. Lots on Youtube. He recommends "Snakejuice", which is salt water. He's a power lifter by the way. His style can be a bit aggressive, but he seems to know what he's talking about.

I can relate to that. I believe me eating is a social responsibility, I wouldn't want to deal with a hungry me, why should anyone else have to?Dangerscouse wrote: ↑July 24th, 2018, 6:38 amI'm too greedy and get too 'hangry' and distracted to go without food for that long.

So that you actually get real benefits you're not eliciting from other means? Also, in the Western world we do tend to confuse genuine hunger with habit. In time, hunger does go off. Is it really such a big deal to go without food for say 15hrs now and then just to see how you react? Sometimes you have to change something to potentially get insight and new benefits. It could be a really useful tool for well-being.iain wrote: ↑December 5th, 2018, 7:29 amI can relate to that. I cannot guarantee that a significant portion of the issue isn't caused by what I do eat being less than ideal, but I am definitely more short tempered and less able to think objectively and fairly during the initial period of hunger. I have little experience of longer term fasting, but some 8 hours after a meal there is some improvement but I remain less able to think laterally for at least another 4 hours. Personally I chose the poorer diet and eating regularly and having some source of food on hand to deal with sugar lows rather than invest the extra time and loss of the pleasures that I believe truly sorting my diet out would entail.Gammmmo wrote: ↑December 5th, 2018, 8:31 amSo that you actually get real benefits you're not eliciting from other means? Try having your last meal at say 6-7pm and then push through any hunger you get the following morning until lunchtime. One of the purported benefits as morning goes on and any hunger goes OFF, is clarity of thought. Suddenly your body is not needing to have to continue the endless ordeal of digestion/absorption, and can apportion resources elsewhere. Maybe have a black coffee. Have you tried the BulletProof coffee idea? Experimentation is good IMO. What's the worst that can happen?iain wrote: ↑December 5th, 2018, 10:43 amI cannot guarantee that a significant portion of the issue isn't caused by what I do eat being less than ideal, but I am definitely more short tempered and less able to think objectively and fairly during the initial period of hunger. I have finished my breakfast by 6:30 so have done the hard work by 9AM anyway. I don't generally have issues with clarity of thought except after lunch. What I do find is that my body over reacts if I am hungry or tired to lunch and so I am much less effective 2-4PM than I should be.Gammmmo wrote: ↑December 5th, 2018, 8:31 amSo that you actually get real benefits you're not eliciting from other means? The other issue i have is that if I am rowing (typical cardiophile even when doing PP I add alot of extra UT2) I struggle to get enough calories and find myself losing weight. On the one occassion I allowed this to continue I did find my strength dropping when I went below 70kg. Not the place (wheer others are seeking to lose weight) to discuss this and very glad I am blessed with an inefficient metabolism even if it does bring some (relatively insignificant) issues.
