Hip Surgery

Post by shorttrack » April 19th, 2008, 11:54 am

I had hip labral tears removed 16 months ago.I have early stage arthritis of the joint.Because of the nature of the injury, the large part, posteriorly of the labrum was removed.Max hip flexion is limited to 90 degrees in everything I am to do.Doc recommends that I should stop rowing.I just got on my erg not too long ago and so far I am doing ok.

The tears also caused Piriformis Syndrome. The surgery fixed that problem real quick.

Anyone out there in the same situation? I really want to know if I keep up on the erg, will I find myself in deep trouble down the line?

What say you.

Hi, I have advanced arthritis of my right hip joint which have greatly reduced the flexibility of my hip. I've been rowing for almost 2 months now. Its been great. I think it has actually improved my flexibility. I would get a second opinion on rowing and your hip. You posted about not going past 90 degree, I dont think I can come close to that...lol.
Good luck!

I started off at 90 degrees and then went full flexion in a very short time, so far so good.A bit sore after a 10k.Some foam roller massage and a bit of ice I was fine.
I,ll keep on going until it's time to quit, but till then, row row and row.

I also have hip problems, and rowing is making things worse.
At first you don,t notice it but you are damaging the joint, be very carefull and only row very slow and use a very light stroke, don,t do any low rate work.
