read a lot of reviews saying the ergdata app is useless , i originally went to download it before the rower had been delivered , but my phone went nuts with the list of things the app needs permission to use so didn't download it in the end lol.

There's a bucket load of BS published on the internet. Ergdata on Android is a good enhancement over the raw numbers you get from a disconnected PM5. well the ergdata was downloaded last night , and ready to hook up to log book account and the pm5 .
i was just in a weird place last night as a family member called saying he had been in hospital a few days ago with a blood clot in his ankle , lower leg . and hes been bumped up the list for a heart operation ...

well first go with the ergdata app , and only managed 50 mins today .
once i finished an it sent the data to the log book i seen a load of info , so off i went to do some cool down stretches an yoga breathing , then jumped in the shower .
came back and went over the data and it showed i had over cooked my self compared to yesterday. and a nice line graph backing that up also that i had overcooked it a bit.
but liked that it picked up that i done interval training .
also like that i am burning more calories going by the data

Ergdata is great. You can also get it to display stroke length, which gives you some indication of how effective your stroke is. You could watch some of the concept2 instructional videos if you have not rowed much before.
It sounds like your "coming to a stop" has been largely resolved by slowing down and breaking up the session. I agree with the prior advice. The only thing I might add is to suggest getting a doctor to check you out if you are starting a new exercise program and have not done much in the past. You always need to start slow and easy, but checking for heart and breathing issues (and blood clots!!!) is not a bad idea.
Good luck with your rowing. You are taller than most here and that is an advantage in rowing. It is an addictive sport.

getting seen by a Dr is a no go , they no longer do that as it is seen as a waste of time and not a medical issue . and cant see a dietitian unless you are referred by the Dr
they try and pass you to a chemist / drug store instead ( for anyone across the pond lol ) .
but in regards to health , i have been going through an ongoing health problem for 4 years,,
( i woke up one day and had lost feeling in half of my left foot and was unable to move 4 toes , was not able to feel any pain when the dr done the prick test with a needle )
over 23 blood tests ( they lost first lot , forgot to book me for a second lot ) and then the rest on and on and on , and eventually the last lot was 10 blood bottles in one go because i started kicking up a stink and putting in complaints. ( waiting a year / year and a half between appointments / waiting for appointments to be sent to me )
i have also had 3 MRI scans to date , and electric nerve conductive tests done.
so far all they have been able to tell me , your lower back and upper back are showing general wear and tare , this is normal for someone of your height , increase your exercise and lose some weight.... bloods show nothing , and the nerve tests the specialist her self, during the test said they both show an abnormality and then i heard nothing for 7 months ( was told i would hear back in 2 weeks ) .
issued a written complaint and verbal complaints, eventually had a letter saying "" your nerve conductive test shows something , but we are unable to put a medical reason / name currently ""
i was due to see the consultant this month but they cancelled and told me to go in November to meet with the original consultant to discuss whats next , if anything

I have just been watching the meters increase and then clicking complete when finished and working on some stretches after, before heading for a shower , when i come back and check what i have done in the log book . i then notice my distance has increased , and time has reduced .

when you feel like you want to do more then increase the pace as in drop down a second or so on your 500m splits. This will gradually increase the distance rowed.
one of the recommendations for interval work is do the first (in your case 5) at a comfortable level and increase the pace on the final one. when you do the average across all 6 intervals you aim for that in your next session. so do the first 5 at the target level then increase on the final interval again and so on and so on.... alternately do 4 x 15 mins or 3 x 20 min. mix it up a bit
like you i dont tend to worry about distance i dont even have the distance showing .. i watch the 500m split time and spm.

well wont be using that again, was after something to protect the flooring in my bedroom from the sweat while erging and then once i stand back up to do some cool down stretches.
so i tried a so called anti slip mat , and i was feeling in great form last night and upping my pace , got half way through interval 3 and heard a loud bang , and on next stroke i cracked my head of the door , elbow of the radiator cover.
yup ,,, you guessed it , anti slip mat my backside , i actually travelled some real distance lol . good job the door was closed or i might have just went down stairs
so tonight i am going to cut the mat shorter so its not under the feet , just up to back feet and down to foot rest .
that way it should catch the sweat still and i can move it when doing cool down stretches .
was so annoyed because i was feeling great and was increasing distance and cutting time off without over doing things .

I used to keep a 2x4 behind the rowerg, to keep it from sliding backwards.

In my humble opinion, the sliding of your erg is a technique issue that is worth working on and correcting. You're leaving too much energy at the end of your drive which is causing you to pull back on the foot straps and to inch the erg backwards. Every time you do this it wastes energy that would be more efficiently applied to spinning the wheel. I used to wedge my erg using boards but I stopped this a while back. Now I row on a fairly shiny surface (finished cork) and if the erg moves I correct my technique. My biggest issue was always leaving energy in the catch and having the erg slide forward, just another example of how to waste energy. My numbers actually improved once I stopped feeling weird with the technique changes, I'm also much more relaxed and fluid than I was for the first year or so. I'm even starting to do my sprints on the same surface, I still start to slide around a bit at really high spm but it's getting better!
Re your earlier posts, usually it's the brain that runs out of glycogen/energy and starts playing tricks with your mind trying to convince you your physically tired. This is way worse for me if I'm stressed or thinking about something else -- being focused and in the moment really helps me here.
