Hemorrhoids!
Hemorrhoids!
Been having discomfort with those nasty little "piles." Traditional medical advice is lots of hydration, high fiber in the diet, exercise, and sitz baths - doing all three but still lots of discomfort. I'm going to lay off the erg for a few days but continue light lifting and walking for exercise. Preparation H feels ok for about ten minutes but then back to square one. Doctor recommends trying Desitin (a diaper rash salve/ointment) - I've heard of cyclists who use it and like it. Any suggestions would be highly welcomed.
Re: Hemorrhoids!
Use a bidet .. Haven't had issues since I dropped toilet paper .. been decades pain free.
Re: Hemorrhoids!
+100 on the fiber, and no straining while lifting (or under any other circumstances, for that matter...)
Good luck.
Good luck.

If needed get them removed, once you have a weak spot it won,t go away. If its only minor ..... Patience.....Nick wrote:Been having discomfort with those nasty little "piles." I use to have them but they went away entirely after I installed a bidet on my toilet. Water spray and minimal wiping was the solution for me. The bidets vary in cost but you can get a decent one for $200-300 but you'll also have to install a GFI electrical outlet next to the toilet to run it, which cost me another $200. Well worth the cost based on the result.Nick wrote:Been having discomfort with those nasty little "piles." I've tried zinc oxide (which is what Desitin is) in the past and it's a smelly, gooey mess that will just foul your undies. It may help prevent skin irritation but won't prevent roids. I've also tried PrepH in the past which is mainly designed to reduce the pain but doesn't heal the roids either.

Re: Hemorrhoids!
Interesting on the hydration, I never drink enough.
Have got into the habit of going to the toilet first thing in the morning so have been able to use minimal paper because I then shower which may be a good option for those not wanting to modify your toilet.
Do your research as there are different types of hemorrhoids. Do not experience pain and its a rare problem for me but it has just occurred a second time.
Apparently 3 out or 4 people experience them at sometime in their lives. Would hate it to interfere with my rowing, what a pain in the ass.
