After reading this thread, thanks for all the tips, and ... I'm so glad I'm not the only one.

To the OP: just so you know you're not alone, I've had the same problem-- the rub occurs above the level of the seat. I use C2 rowing shorts, and find that the application of vaseline helps me. It also seems I get less rub if I pay more attention to the drive with my legs, to the point of tensing the glutes at the end of the drive. It seems to reduce the shearing effect. I use Ergdata and can tailor my stroke to optimize drive time and stroke power. Still get the rub on longer workouts. Frankly I need to lose weight, and that, too, will probably help reduce the pinch.

I used to get these sores every time I rowed over 2k or so, I got a pair of Boathouse solid trou II and problem was solved. These shorts have no seams in the back and a nice material against your skin, they are amazing. These are the women's shorts I'm guessing they have an equivalent for you guys.

Been using a 1.5" inch pad with a big "U" cut out in the back for the last 5 yrs. No special clothes, ointments, padding, and the like. The key for me is the total absence of anything rubbing on the affected area, even through clothes. I take the foam piece to where ever I row, whether it be the health club or a C2 certified race.
