Hip/Groin Stretching
Hip/Groin Stretching
I'm getting quite sore somewhere in the hip/groin area. The easiest way to describe it is if I'm sitting on the bed and lift my knee to put a sock on it's really quite painful somewhere towards the inside of by leg. Has anyone else experienced this or have any useful stretches for this area? It's only lifting the leg that triggers the pain.

Re: Hip/Groin Stretching
I've been experiencing pain in the left side of my groin for a couple of weeks. Rowing hasn't been effected but the area remains sore most of the day. That said,. you might want to consider laying off the erg for a few days. The conventional wisdom on this sort of thing's first response is RICE (rest, ice, compression, elevation). Since compression and elevation are not feasible for groin issues, I've gotten into using an ice bag (a bag of frozen corn or peas can conform nicely to any area of the body) 15 minutes on and 15 minutes off. Combine that with rest - just sit around with a cuppa while the ice bags are on and other wise take it easy for a few days. I also use Tylenol - Advil works well also - I just can't take ibruprofen. If the situation doesn't improve after a couple of days, I'd see a doc. Hope this helps.

Thanks I'll give the ice a go

Re: Hip/Groin Stretching
Just a quick update I spoke to the physio at the gym today and they assisted me by showing me the Thomas Stretch as they believe its a hip abductor issue. So far I do feel a real improvement, its definitely worth a look on Youtube if you are experiencing similar.
