My issue is two fold , after about 90 minutes I get an aching bum and I have to keep readjusting my seating position thereafter , but the bigger problem is the sweat and constant motion of the rowing starts to cause " welts" or " sores" on
the top of my backside , this then gets worse and worse the longer I row and it then takes around a week for the skin to
heal up . I don't think there is much I can do about sweat between the cheeks of my backside . As I've already said my
technique is pretty sound so I'm not thinking that could be a contributory factor .

That product may help with the skin irritation. There are several others for the same purpose if that one doesn't work, check out triathlon websites. The sore muscles just take time. I also have to shift my position occasionally on longer rows to relieve the aching glutes. I can do that on the recovery between strokes so no stopping needed.

I wait every year for this topic to come up. Yes, there is a huge difference between glute soreness and sores developing around the tailbone. A normal C2 seat rubs around the tailbone. Depending on anatomy, rowing style, etc some, maybe most, are not bothered by this. Or they develop tough skin. For others, perhaps the minority, the solution is to make sure that part of the anatomy does not rub on the C2 seat. My technique is to use about a 2 in thick fairly stiff piece of foam the same size as the seat with a U-shape cut out of the back. That raises the tailbone off of the seat. End of problem. There are several who have read my posts about this situation over the years and benefitted.

Well that's worth a go , I have tried so many different things including garden cushions doubled up, pillows , towels
Etc...and nothing has really worked thus far ( several years down the road !!) long term. I've just started using 2Toms Buttman roll on , in conjunction with the seat pad and cycling underwear ( Gonso ) and someone else recommended JL Racing Row pants so these have just arrived this morning and I'll give them a go too. Something's gotta work !! Again, many thanks for your suggestion .

I don't do anything like the distance you're doing, but the solution for me was a small towel with about four layers of bubblewrap folded inside it.

The solution for me came via this forum, some months or a year or more ago.

Some fellow recommended to someone here that they sit toward the forward / front edge of the seat.

I've done that ever since and the minimal issues I was having are a thing of the past.

(No extra cushion, etc.).

Cautiously optimistic that this is helping , however it's only been two days and I've only done 2x20k rows so far so I need

Endurerow seat solved the problem for me. A bit pricey but works.

Never used this seat, but it looks very promising. First it gives your butt bones a place to go. Secondly, it does exactly what my DIY solution does and that is it has a large cutout that would keep the tailbone off of the seat. I'm actually thinking about buying one, even though my home solution has worked for me for years.

Figured for $30, what could I lose so I ordered one. Normally my seat comfort level drops around 30 minutes. With this seat my butt was still comfortable at 60 minutes.

I found Hotspur muscle rub helped me get through the pain. My pain felt like a dead leg (of the bottom) and the heat (lots) certainly detracts from this feeling

Off to Clark rubber here in Aus to obtain a piece of foam cut to size. Haven't rowed due to blisters on behind. I'm sure this will be a solution and far cheaper then obtaining a gel seat. Will let you know how the solution works. Sick and tired of blisters on behind. Will also revert back tom uncle Knicks as the rowing shorts custom made initiated my problem.,cheers Len

For people in the UK, try www.foamshop.co.uk as you can get a piece of memory foam cut to size or buy off cuts that are really cheap and you can put in a pillow case. They all seem to be longish pieces and varying density but they're a far cheaper solution.

Just don't do like me and order 3kg of off cuts, when you probably need 0.5kg at the very most!!
