Get back on rower after car crash

Post by Abi-snail » September 11th, 2015, 6:13 pm

A week ago I was involved in a head on collision, which has left me quite achy in my back between my shoulder blades and above my pelvis. I feel like rowing right now would not be a good idea. I'm wondering how to judge when to get back on the rower. Getting a bit impatient now but don't want to risk prolonging my recovery. Any advice would be welcome.

If your injuries are superficial and prognosis for full recovery is good; if the psychological, economic, and legal consequences of the accident are managable; if you have a good appetite and are sleeping well; if you are not at present a competitive athlete with a timetable, if you have a fitness alternative to rowing such as swimming, you know the answer and the answer is When you're ready, no rush. If one or more of these conditions is not fulfilled, the answer is the same.

Sorry to hear about tat mishap Abi-snail. As we can´t diagnose whether it might be your spine that was hurt (maybe by crash-iduced torsion) or if it´s a muscular injury or something else best advise is to clarify the reasons for your pain (and the time when you are ready to go back on the rower) by seing a professional.

Thanks for your replies. I went to hospital after accident and they confirmed pain is due to muscle spasms. I'm still a little tender so I guess I'll wait to get back on the rower. I do usually swim too so I'll stick with that for now. I'm not competitive (rowing) so there's no hurry. Just missing the psychological benefits of rowing. Swimming' s not as easy to access cause I can't do it at home.
